January 21, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries Roger P. Van Bramer ODESSA — Roger P. Van Bramer, 91, of Odessa died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Oct. 6, 1908, in Vandalia, Ill. He married Ava L. Munn, July 7, I991, in Lovington, N.M., and moved to Odessa in 1995 from Jal, N.M. He retired as Eastern Area Plant Superintendent for El Paso Natural Gas Company in 1972 after 40 years. For 65 years, he had lived in Jal, N.M., where he was the treasurer for First Baptist Church for 25 years, served on the city council for four years, served on the school board for 13 years and was school board president eight years. In Odessa, he was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Ava Van Bramer of Odessa; daughters, Camilla Thompson of Houston and Jo Rita Olliff of Odessa; son, David Van Bramer and his wife, Kay, of Lake Buchanan; stepsons, Don Brownlee and his wife, Pat, of Hallsville and Max Brownlee and his wife, Cindi, of Tampa, Fla. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Earnest Easley officiating. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 623 Ector St., with the Rev. Roy Baines officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Mr. Gobble was born April 22, 1938, in Pampa to Earl Ross and Floy Stanard Gobble. He married Patricia Clover March 26, 1964, in Odessa. He graduated from Oklahoma University and was a pharmacist for 39 years. For 20 years, he was a sales representative for Eli Lilly Co. and he was currently employed at Merck-Medco Rx Services in Irving. Mr. Gobble served on "A Vision for Denton" work committee and he was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church. Prior to moving to Denton eight years ago, he was active in Shreveport holding a life membership in the National Skeet Shooting Association and was a member of the Louisiana State Bass Fishing Team for two years. He held professional memberships in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma pharmaceutical associations. Survivors include his wife, Pat; daughters and their husbands, Barbara O’Connell and Jeff of McHenry, Ill., and Gina dePingre and Paul of Denton; son, Ken Gobble of Houston; and two grandchildren, Grant O’Connell and Paxton dePingre. He also is survived by his mother, FIoy Gobble; one brother, Mike Gobble and his wife, Karen; and many friends. Pallbearers will be Bob Goodman, Scott Moore, Andre Villarreal, Bill dePingre, Mike Smith and Doyle Fletcher. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Edmond Earl Foster, 73, of Odessa died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at New Horizons Nursing Home. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. He was born Feb. 14, 1926, in DeKalb, Bowie County. He married Mary Nell Presley July 27, 1950, in Angleton. Mr. Foster moved to Odessa in 1951 where he went to work for Faubion’s Gulf Service Station. He then went to work and later owned Holiday Arco on Highway 80 service road. He then retired from Permian Oil and Tire after 23 years of service. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church. Earl loved to hunt and fish. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jayhue and Ella Mae Foster, and his brother, Bill Foster. Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Nell Foster of Odessa; son, James Earl Foster and his wife, Vickie, of Omaha, Texas; daughter, Vickie Raines and her husband, Raymond, of Odessa; brothers, Elmer Foster of Odessa and Charlie Foster of DeKalb; five grandchildren, Stephanie and Samantha Foster and Scotty, Tiffany and Tammera Raines. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Faustino Gonzales ALPINE — Faustino Ramirez "Fred" Gonzales, 72, of Mojave, Calif., died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, in Mojave, Calif. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine with the Rev. Rick Ruiz officiating. Burial will be at Holy Angels Cemetery. Arrangements by Stickel Mortuary. He was born Jan. 30, 1929, in Presidio. For the short time he lived in Mojave, he made many friends. He liked to cook, was an all-around handy man and a counselor. The family would like to thank the community of Mojave for accepting him as one of its own. May he always be remembered by the people that he met and loved. We will surely miss him, but he is where angels belong, Heaven. He is preceded in death by his father, Andres F. Gonzales in 1989; mother, Augustina Ramirez Gonzales in 1990; brothers, Mike R. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church. Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. today at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will be at Saragosa Cemetery. Survivors include his sons, Genaro Machuca of Las Cruces, N.M., and Raul Machuca of Alpine; daughter, Evangelina Morales of Balmorhea; brothers, Valente Machuca of Odessa and Charlie Nichols of Pecos; sister, Consuelo Valdez of California; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Machuca, who is reunited with his loving wife for all eternity. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Clarence "Slim" Murray of Odessa died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born July 29, 1917, in Ferris. Mr. Murray married Hazel Burns Nov. 30, 1940, in Cherokee County. They moved to Odessa in 1945 from Jacksonville. He was a veteran of World War II and was awarded two Bronze Stars. He was retired from FWA Drilling as a roughneck and loved to play dominoes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Murray, July 30, 1999. He is survived by sons and their wives, David and Pam Murray, and Gary and Patsy Murray; grandchildren who were the apple of his eye, Melissa Murray and Bryan Murray; nephews and their wives, Charlie and Ausie Burns, and Buddy and Sharon Burns; nieces, Linda Tune, Sandy Robison, Pat Bishop and Janet Burch; and grandnieces, Amanda Burns and Sarah Burns. She was born Sept. 11, 1935, in Honey Grove, to Harry T. Tyler and Eva L. (Isaacs) Tyler. She was a devoted Christian and a loving mother, as well as an active member of the Assembly of God Church. Anne married Joe L. Smith on Sept. 8, 1956, and from this came two beautiful children. Anne and her husband resided in Pecos from 1962 to 1995. She retired from Security State Bank as an officer there in 1978. She was preceded in death by three brothers, H.T. Tyler, George H. Tyler and Homer R. Tyler. Anne is survived by her loving husband, Joe L. Smith; children, Lisa Good and Mark Alan Smith; brothers, James J. Tyler and Leonard L. Tyler; sisters, Dorothy L. Musick, Neta Maston, Kathleen Ashing, JoAnn Ard and Jeannette Pettit; grandchildren, Veronica Smith, Valerie Smith, Grant Good, Davis Good, Stephen Good and Christa Good; and 17 nieces and nephews, as well as many other loving family and friends. Services were Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at the Broken Arrow Assembly of God under the direction of Floral Haven Funeral Home with interment following at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to Saint Francis Hospice in honor of Anne’s life, at 6600 South Yale Suite 350, Tulsa, Okla., 74136. _________________________________________________________________ Mary Swafford WINK — Mary Jane Swafford, 81, of Wink died Jan. 20, 2000, at Winkler County Memorial Hospital in Kermit. She was born Nov. 29, 1918, in La Crosse, Wis., to Peter and Ida Hovind. She attended La Crosse State Teachers College. She married Cleave Swafford in 1943 in La Crosse, Wis. She had lived in Wink since 1945. Mrs. Swafford was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wink, joining in 1946. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Kermit Chapter #895 Order of the Eastern Star. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Wink. Burial will follow at the Ker- mit Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Redwine will be officiating. Survivors include her two daughters, Julie Purcell of Kermit and Sue Adams of Wink; five grandchildren, Cory and Coby Purcell of Midland, Frank Purcell of Aloha, Ore., John Adams of New York City and Jennifer Adams of Wink; and one great-grandson, Noah Franklin Purcell of Aloha, Ore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleave Swafford, on Dec. 29, 1998. She also was preceded by her parents, Peter and Ida Hovind; her sisters, Lucille Hovind and Pernella Kopacek; and her brother, Millard Hovind. Pallbearers will be Cory Purcell, Coby Purcell, Jerry Purcell, James Smith, Larry McCallister and Phil Parks.
