January 23, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries Jesse Porras IV ODESSA — I am home in Heaven, dear ones, Oh, so happy and so bright, There is perfect joy and beauty, In this everlasting light. All the pain and grief is over, Every restless tossing passed, I am now at peace forever, Safely home in Heaven at last. Did you wonder I so calmly, Trod the valley of the shade? Oh, but Jesus love illumined, Ever dark and fearful glade. And He came Himself to meet me, In that Way so hard to tread, And with Jesus’ arm to lean on, Could I have one doubt or dread? Then you must not grieve so sorely, Fore I love you dearly still, Try to look beyond earth’s shadow, Pray to trust our Father’s Will, There is work still waiting for you, So you must not idly stand; Do it now, while life remaineth, You shall rest in Jesus land, When that work is all completed, He will gently call you Home, Oh, the rapture of that meeting, Oh, the joy to see you come. Jesse Manuel Porras IV was born July 16, 1983, in Odessa. He will be greatly missed by his parents, Jesse Manuel Porras III and Sulema Garay Porras; brothers, Jonathan, Julius and Joshua; sisters, Kristal, Jessica Porras; grandparents, Eva Garay, Jesus Manuel Porras Sr. and Celia Mendoza Porras. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Langford and husband, Johnny, of Midland and Paula Northcutt and husband, Curtiss, of Andrews, two granddaughters, Melanie Langford of Midland and Melissa Hedrick and husband, Jamey, of Andrews; one great-granddaughter, Kennedy Hedrick of Andrews; one sister, Peggy Harber and husband, John E., of Odessa; two nieces and four nephews. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at the Kermit Cemetery. Evonne was a unique person, living her life as she saw fit. After being born in Nolan County, she and her family lived in several places, including Eastland and Wickett, but they settled in Wink in 1942. After graduating Wink High School in 1943, she worked as a telephone operator for several years. She quit working to raise her family with her husband, A.M. "Chub" Kelly, Jr. In 1977, she went back to work as an operator, retiring from Basin Answering Service in 1989. There were many things in her life she was proud of, but her two granddaughters were at the top of her list. She was glad to tell anyone who would listen that her granddaughter Mel was a U.T.P.B. graduate and a paralegal and her granddaughter Miss was a Texas Tech graduate and a schoolteacher. Evonne loved to watch baseball on TV, especially if her team, the Cubs, was playing. She often talked about a trip to Houston with her daughters to see the Cubs play the Astros. She was so excited when Cubs announcer Harry Carey waved at her. During her life, she taught her daughters many things they will never forget — the importance of giving a baby a powder bath; how to get a taxi cab; how to put Vicks and hot towels on your chest for a cold; and patience, endurance and grace. We will miss you. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Rob W. Mallow — husband, father, grandfather, loyal friend, mentor and businessman — died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at the age of 69. His father, Tex Mallow, mother, Pansy Mallow, and sister, Sue Durham, preceded him in death, and he leaves one remaining big sister, Mary Cook of Norman, Okla. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Patsy Hunt, for more than 50 years. Both of his children, Gerald and Lynn, adored him, as did his three grandchildren, Neal, Carly and Olivia. Many others who considered Rob as their father also will grieve his loss. Rob was a kind and gentle man who never raised his voice and always preferred a peaceful approach to all things. He loved people and felt that everyone had something special to contribute. He was a truly positive human being who could make the sun shine on a rainy day with just the twinkle in his eyes. He was a prince and will be dearly missed by all. Thank you, God, for letting us be blessed by his presence. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Bratcher officiating.
