January 25, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries ODESSA — Donald Campbell, 65, of Odessa passed away Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at his residence. Mr. Campbell was born Dec. 3, 1934, in Derring, Mo. He married Patsy Lovvorn Feb. 3, 1956, in Lovington, N.M. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict. He moved to Odessa in 1962 and was a member of the Odessa VFW Post No. 4372 and Second Baptist Church. He had been employed by Western Tank as shop foreman until his retirement in 1997 after 30 years. He was preceded in death by a son, James Donnie Campbell in 1989. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patsy Campbell of Odessa; three sons, Jerry Lee Campbell of Odessa, Ronald David Campbell of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Brad Campbell of Odessa; four sisters, Joan Summerour of Moss Point, Miss., Fern McCrackan of Grenada, Miss., Rosemary Park of Moss Point, Miss. and Peggy Sullivan of Union City, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Jenifer Lyn Baker, Travis Jacob Campbell and Cody Don Campbell; and one great-grandchild, Rylan Campbell. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Troy officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Graveside services for Mike Ellis, 47, of Odessa will be at noon today at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. Mr. Ellis died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born July 22, 1952, in Hobbs, N.M. He married Kathy Clement Aug. 6, 1983, in Odessa. Mr. Ellis moved to Odessa in 1957. He was owner and operator of E&W Automotive for four years. He had formerly worked for Sewell Ford and later Sewell Ford-Lincoln-Mercury for seven years. He worked in the automotive field for 24 years. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose No. 1701 for 27 years. He served as administrator and had been governor. He was Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Ellis of Odessa; son, Brian Ellis of Wichita, Kan.; daughter, Kerri Ellis of Jacksonville, Fla.; parents, Bennie and Jerry Ellis of Odessa; brother, Bennie Ellis Jr. of Odessa; sister, Elaine Dickman of Odessa; and one grandchild, Alexander Christian Ellis of Wichita, Kan. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Services for Jason Scott Gill, 15, of Odessa will be at 3 p.m. today at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Watkins officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Jason died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born April 5, 1984, in Odessa. Jason previously attended Odessa High School and he loved racing cars. Survivors include his parents, Leslie and Stacey Gill of Odessa; maternal grandparents, Bobby and Sharon Hembree of Odessa; paternal grandparents, Ray and Patsy Gill of Odessa; maternal great-grandmother, Ruby Tuggle of Odessa; paternal great-grandmother, Edith Beckham of Odessa; paternal great-grandfather, James Gill of Odessa; brother, Cody Gill of Odessa; sisters, Danielle and Kelsey Gill, both of Odessa; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Bedford B. Holcomb SAN ANGELO — Bedford B. Holcomb, 89, died Jan. 24, 2000, at Baker-Brame Nursing Home. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. John Loving officiating. Arrangements by Johnson’s Funeral Home. Bedford was born to Haynie and Ann Keith Barksdale in Deming, N.M. Territory on Nov. 14, 1910. In 1919 they moved to Breckenridge where Bedford grew up and attended school. In 1937 she married Gerry Holcomb, who preceded her in death in 1978. Bedford moved to San Angelo from Odessa in 1979. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Altar Guild and St. Mary’s Guild. She joined Newtimers Club when she moved to San Angelo and was an active member until her death. For 13 years she was a member of Angelo Community Auxiliary. She loved to play bridge and was a member of several bridge groups. She is survived by two sons, Phillip Holcomb and daughter-in-law Kathleen of San Angelo and Michael Holcomb and daughter-in-law Deborah of New Hope, Penn.; one grand-daughter, Genevieve and husband Dan Cummings of San Francisco, Calif.; her aunt, Mrs. Nadine Smith of Las Vegas, Nev.; and special friends, Bob and Jean Ellen Keith of Odessa. Special thanks to nurses and staff of Shannon Hospital, 6 South, Baker Brame, and Shelly Hunt and Dr. Vayden Stanley of Vista Care Family Hospital. He was born to Stephen Lee and Deanna Renee (Gilbreath) Hovind on Jan. 14, 2000, in Plano. He is survived by his parents, Steve and Deanna Hovind of Plano; grandparents, Bobby and Mary Gilbreath of Odessa and Myron and Iris Hovind of Orlando, Fla.; uncle, Danny Gilbreath of Dallas; aunts and uncles, Mike and Kelly Holmstrom of Galesburg, Ill., and Kim and Dave Fawler of Galesburg, Ill. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at the Grace Outreach Center in Plano with Rev. Garreft Hawfitch officiating. Mallow — husband, father, grandfather, loyal friend, mentor and businessman — died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at the age of 69. His father, Tex Mallow, mother, Pansy Mallow, and sister, Sue Durham, preceded him in death and he leaves one remaining big sister, Mary Cook of Norman, Okla. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Patsy Hunt, for more than 50 years. Both of his children, Gerald and Lynn, adored him, as well as his three grandchildren, Neal, Carly and Olivia. Many others who considered Rob as their father also will grieve his loss. Rob was a kind and gentle man who never raised his voice and always preferred a peaceful approach to all things. He loved people and felt that everyone had something special to contribute. He was a truly positive human being who could make the sun shine on a rainy day with just the twinkle in his eyes. He was a prince and will be dearly missed by all. Thank you, God, for letting us be blessed by his presence. Miller, 89, of Odessa died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at her residence. She was born Feb. 16, 1910, in Howell County, Mo. She married Frank E. Miller, April 24, 1924, in Iola, Kan., and they moved to Odessa in 1955 from Woodson County, Kan. She was a Christian and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, July 13, 1997, and by four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include her daughter, Kay Crumrine and her husband, Victor Sr., of Odessa; son, Everet A. Miller and his wife, Jimmie, of Corpus Christi; grandsons and their wives, Lee and Sharon Crumrine, Cory and Karen Crumrine, Rory and Judy Crumrine, Barry and Lynn Crumrine, Troy and Sherree Crumrine, Colby and Amy Miller and Chad Miller. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Helen Woodcock of Gridley, Kan. Mr. Olesh was born Dec. 31, 1925, in Baltimore, Md. He had worked in law enforcement for 15 years in Baltimore before moving to Odessa. He had worked for the Ector County Sheriff’s Department as captain of the Jail for more than 25 years until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark J. Olesh. He is survived by his wife, Sophia Olesh of Odessa; one daughter, Linda Ruiz and her husband, Joe, of San Angeio; one sister, Rose Maskovyak of Baltimore, Md.; and one grandchild. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ken Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Lurene Varnell ODESSA — Memorial services for Lurene Varnell, 88, of Odessa will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Heggemeier officiating. Mrs. Varnell died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born July 29, 1911, in Joshua. Mrs. Varnell was a teacher for the Ector County Independent School District for many years. She received her B.S. in Education from North Texas State University. She was a member of the Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, an active member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Wesley Sunday School class. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.T. "Tracey" Varnell in 1994. She is survived by her sister, Breen Ringland of Houston.
