February 04, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Mr. Gene Cockerham was born March 13, 1914, in Castor, Bienville Parish, La. His parents were Mr. James Cockerham and Hannah Reaves Cockerham. In Castor, La., Mr. Cockerham received his early schooling. In 1947, he moved to Odessa. He met Fannie Mae Croft of Meridian, Miss., in 1948. She joined him in Odessa, where they were married in 1949. To this union was born one son, Clarence Harvey Cockerham. Mr. Cockerham had an older son named Lugene Cockerham, who came from Louisiana to join the family. He was in the armed forces. He served in World War II as a private first class in the Army. He worked as a security guard for Gibson Warehouse, where he retired in 1979. He enjoyed playing dominoes with his children, watching all kinds of sports and outdoors camping. Family was very important to him. He would often like to tell long stories about his life experiences and share his wisdom and knowledge. He lived in Odessa for 53 years. He went to a greater union with God on January 29, 2000, at the age of 85. His family that is left to celebrate his union is his wife of 51 years, Fannie Cockerham of Odessa; and son, Clarence Cockerham and his wife, Jurline, of Midland. He had nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces; countless loved ones. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Martinez Funeral Home, 1040 S. Dixie. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Mackey Chapel UMC, 306 W. Clements St. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Mike Rene Mancha, 33, of Odessa died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Midland. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. James Bridges officiating. Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home. He was born Nov. 5, 1966, in Odessa. Survivors include his wife, Michelle Mancha of Odessa; sons, Jeremy Mancha and Michael Mancha, both of Odessa; daughter, Emari Mancha of Odessa; brothers, Ruben Mancha, Dulces "Candy" Mancha Jr., Sammy Mancha and Rodney Kempke, all of Odessa; sister, Maria Mancha of Odessa; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dulces Mancha Sr. of Odessa; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lupe Mancha of Odessa. _________________________________________________________________ MIDLAND — Services for Camron Alexander Swaboda have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Pipkin Funeral Home and Chapel with Dr. Dale Pond of First Baptist Church officiating. Camron was born Sept. 4, 1998, to Donald and Claudia Swaboda and passed away Jan. 31, 2000, at a local hospital. Camron was a fun-loving little boy who loved playing with his Elmo doll. He is survived by his parents, Donald and Claudia Swaboda of Midland; sister, Adriana Swaboda of Midland; half-sister, Khelsye Scoggins; half-brothers, Robert Farris, Brandon Farris and Nathan Zion; grandparents, Don and Anest Swaboda of Hueytown, Ala., Paula Bingham of Odessa, Carlos and Ester Hernandez of Silver Spring, Md., and Sal and Debra Cifuentes of Birmingham, Ala., and Brad Green; "half-grandparents," Robert and Kim Zion, Donald McClure; great-grandmother, Billie Green; great-great-grandmother, Willie Latsoa; aunts, Reena Green, Madeline Rodas, Crystal Scoggins, Gena Hendrex, SunLee Cifuentes, Amy Swaboda, Para Hendrex; uncles, Corey Hendrex, Josh Hoeckendorf, David Scoggins, Gabriel Cifuentes, Kevin Cifuentes, James Fields; and several cousins. Pallbearers will be David Scoggins, Josh Hoeckendorf, Michael Bingham and Donald McClure. Interment will immediately follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.
