February 12, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Dale Purdy, 56, of Odessa died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Craig Martindale officiating. He was born March 6, 1943, in Lubbock. He married Arnella Yoder Vest on Jan. 28, 1996, in Durango, Colo. Mr. Purdy moved to Odessa in 1999 from Durango, Colo. He owned and operated Midwest Machine for 20 years and then worked for Durango Air Services for more than 11 years building aircraft engines. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and a member of the Shortwing Piper Club. Survivors include his wife, Arnella Purdy of Odessa; daughters, Rachel Vest of Odessa and Lori Purdy Fowler of Bayfield, Colo.; brothers, Allan Purdy of El Paso, Joe Purdy of Tulsa, Okla., Raymond Purdy of Odessa and Bob Purdy of Dallas; sisters, Pat Kesey of Pecos, Shirley Nowell of Granbury, Betty Lou Griffin of Midland and Lorraine Simpson of Grand Prairie; one granddaughter, Samantha Nicole Fowler of Bayfield, Colo.; numerous nieces and nephews. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. _________________________________________________________________ Ruth E. Chewning ODESSA — Ruth E. Chewning, 94, of Odessa died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Deerings Nursing Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Scofield officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was born April 9, 1905, in Indian Territory, Okla., to Phillip and Iva Raymer. She married William H. Chewning in 1931 in Duncan, Okla. Mrs. Chewning was a resident of Odessa for 55 years. She retired from Vance Oil Supply after 25 years of service. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star Chapter 447. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Louise Wilmont and Estella Hughes of Oklahoma City and Evelyn Foster of Odessa; and brother, Ben of Oklahoma City. Survivors include her sister, Helen Booth of Oklahoma City; several nieces and nephews, all of Oklahoma City.
