February 15, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Minnie Leora Cox, 93, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at her residence. Mrs. Cox was born January 11, 1907, in Cottonwood. She moved to Odessa in 1977 from Grandfalls where the family had lived for many years. She married Auther Lawton Cox Dec. 21, 1924, in Shackelford County. He preceded her in death in 1957. She was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church. Her life was her family and her church. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, W.B. and Minnie Lee Shirley; two daughters, Dixie Parten and Leora Armstrong; several brothers and sisters; and one grandson. She is survived by sons, Norman L. Cox and his wife, Nancy, of Monahans, Durward A. Cox and his wife, Martha, of Kerrville, William R. "Butch" Cox and his wife, Dawn, of Huber, Arizona; daughters, Barbara A. Floyd and her husband, Roy, of Odessa and Linda S. Woods and her husband, Ralph, of Odessa; brother, J. B. Shirley of Monahans; sisters, Avanell Gibbons of Fort Worth and Lamoin Hart of Midland; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, in the Sherwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Hiser officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Monahans Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be the grandsons, Johnny Harris, Danny Marble, Lonnie Cox, Jason Wells, Derek Ellis, Lance Cox, Danny Armstrong and Bobby Blackman. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Thomas Earl Harrison Jr., 72, of Odessa died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Johann Neethling officiating. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday Highland United Methodist Church. He was born Oct. 18, 1927, in Stamford. He married Doris Mathis Dec. 21, 1949, in Abilene. Thomas Earl Harrison Jr. was a physical education and history teacher for Ector County Independent School District for 30 years. He and his wife, Doris, were owners of Mary Moppets Day School. Thomas loved to play golf and 42 dominoes with his friends. He was an avid reader and loved Texas and western history. He was active in the Methodist Men’s Association and Jacob’s Ladder Reading Program at Gale Pond Elementary School. He is loved and remembered for his generosity and kindness, humor, wit and his devotion to his family and his church, Highland United Methodist. His wife Doris of 50 years loving said, "God surely has a precious angel with him in Heaven." Survivors include his wife, Doris Harrison of Odessa; son, Thomas Lynn Harrison and wife, Cindy, of Odessa; daughter, Pamela Sue Harrison of Austin; brother, Joe Harrison and wife, Cherry, of Maui, Hawaii; five grandchildren; and sisters-in-laws, Brenda Carr and Darlene Hunsiker.
