February 26, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Robert R. "Bob" Davenport passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 27, 1934, in Tulsa, Okla., and moved to Odessa in 1943. His parents were Royce M. and Lillian Davenport. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at Northside Baptist Church with Revs. Clydel Chapman and Glenn Harlin officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Bob was an Odessa High graduate. He attended Tarleton State College and Baylor University. He served 23 years in the Marine Corps Reserves, retiring as a First Sergeant. He retired from the Sheriff Reserves after serving 22 years. He was branch manager for W. L. Somner Co. in Odessa and Shoreline Supply Co. in Oklahoma City and Houston. He recently retired from Odessa Pump. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church, the American Legion, Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Marine Corps Association. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, David Alan; his son-in-law, Joe Duerksen,: his brother-in-law, the Rev. Jim Anderson; and his nephew, Gary Parks. He is survived by his wife, Mona; daughters, Mrs. Karen Duerksen of Iowa Park and Mrs. Anita Day and her husband of Midlothian; sister, Maxine Parks and her husband of Odessa; and four grandchildren, Robert and Angela Duerksen and Chad and Cailie Day. He is also survived by numerous nieces and neph-ews. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Bessie Lorene Brown Dowlen, 85, of Odessa passed away Feb. 24, 2000, at her home. She was born Oct. 26, 1914, in Walters, Okla., to Tom and Myrtle Brown. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sixth & Jackson Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Dowlen attended Prospect School, a rural two-room schoolhouse, and then attended Cameron Junior College in Lawton, Okla. She married Mitt Dowlen Aug. 12, 1936, at Walters, Okla. She had the pleasure of seeing her parents celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. She and Mitt moved to Odessa for the second time in 1960 from Levelland. She was a longtime member of Sixth & Jackson Church of Christ. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and "domestic engineer" who spent her life caring for and about others. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mitt; brother, Earl Dowlen; and grandson, Jeff Dowlen. Survivors are her son, Cleon Dowlen and his wife, Shelia, of Odessa; daughter, Jan Hartsell of Odessa; six grandchildren, Kathy Sherrill of Andrews, Charlotte Sherrill of Oklahoma City, Bradley Hartsell of Odessa, Scott Dowlen of Midland, Lisa Linton of Austin and Dana Dowlen of Mid- land; and seven great-grand- children; and many dear friends. (www.wilsonfuneral.com) _________________________________________________________________ Bessie Mae Watson ODESSA — Bessie Mae Watson, 85, of Odessa died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at her residence. She was born March 16, 1914, in Lockesburg, Ark., and met and married James M. Watson, Nov. 1, 1930, in Lockesburg. In 1937, they moved to Roosevelt, Okla. They moved to Odessa from Wilson, Okla., in 1986. She was a homemaker but had owned a restaurant and had been a cook for schools and hospitals. She was a positive person who never complained, and never had a bad word to say. There was nothing that she would not try in cooking and sewing. She was preceded in death by her husband, April 11, 1994; daughter, Patsy Anderson; parents, John and Sally Henson; and five brothers, Bonnie, Hubert, Her- bert, Richard and Truman Henson. Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Wallis and husband, Curt, and Jimmie Gilham and husband, Jack, all of Odessa. She also is survived by grandchildren, Mike and Karen Wallis, Karen and Josh Villasenor, Kasey Garrett, and Ashley Gilham; great grandchildren, Joel and Melanie Villasenor, Lacy and Jason Wise, Lori Villasenor and Chrissy and Trey Harris; and great-great-grandchildren Tyler, Kylie, and Dakota. Other survivors include her sisters, Ollie Belle Robinson of Eunice, N.M., and Imogene Teague of Hobart, Okla. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2000. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today, Feb. 26, 2000, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Melvin Warren officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gar- dens.
