March 01, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Mildred G. Pope Cooper went to be with her Lord on Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, in Kingwood at the age of 84. Mildred was a lifelong resident of Odessa. She worked in the concession stand at the Twin Terrace Drive Inn during the 1950s and early 1960s. She was the first employee of Bobby Cox at the old drive-up Texas Burger at 52nd Street and Andrews Highway, as the cook and manager during the 1960s and 1970s. She then went to work at Medical Center Hospital as the grill cook in the cafeteria until her retirement several years ago. She made many friends at the hospital. Mildred was a long time member of Kingston Avenue Baptist Church, where she was loved by all. She loved and was very involved in her church, where she served as hostess, chef and organizer for all holiday banquets, vacation Bible schools, funeral meals, church socials, celebrations and mission trips. She served on the Executive Board of the Odessa Baptist Association for many years also. One of her passions was to help coordinate and serve on the Meals On Wheels Board of Directors for many years, which she loved. Mildred was born June 14, 1915, in Oklahoma. She is predeceased by her husband, John D. Cooper. She is survived by children, Jimmy Pack of Dallas, Joyce Worley of Conroe and Kenny Cooper of Michigan. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. There will be a memorial service for Mildred at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Kingston Avenue Baptist Church, officiated by her longtime pastor and friend Dr. Ralph Thompson. Mildred will then be laid to rest with graveside services Saturday, March 4, 2000, in Durant, Okla. _________________________________________________________________ Carol Marie Waldrip ODESSA — Carol Marie Waldrip passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Odessa Medical Center Hospital. She was born Carol Marie Buschlen August 1, 1938, in Sage, Mich. She was a respiratory therapist in Michigan before moving to Odessa, where she worked for several years as a cashier at the Furr’s Cafeteria on Grandview Avenue. She was a homemaker for the last 10 years. She married Elwyn Guy Waldrip of Odessa on Dec. 14, 1987. She is survived by her husband; brothers, Jake and Paul Buschlen, both of Michigan; sisters, Esther Craford of California and Ann Cams of Michigan; seven children, Stan Roberson and wife, Debbie, of Harrison, Mich., Cindy Wilber and Kathy Tice, of Clare, Mich., Terry Border and wife, Debra, of Midland, Mich., Gary Border and wife, Marcie, of Odessa, Penny Zeneberg and husband, Daniel, of Mount Pleasant, Mich., and Jason Waldrip of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and 21 grandchildren. She is also survived by her father and mother-in-law, Otto D. and Ethel Waldrip of Abilene; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Otto J. "Jim" and Bonnie Waldrip of Fort Stockton and Mack and Teddy Waldrip of Austin. _________________________________________________________________ Lorayne Brewer HOUSTON — Lorayne Brewer, 92, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. Graveside services were held Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Forest Park Lawndale. Visitation for family and friends was held Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Forest Lawndale. Lorayne was born Feb. 2, 1908, in Fairfield. She married Orien Chauncey Brewer in Houston in 1939. They had one daughter, Mary Lou. Lorayne was preceded in death by her husband Feb. 25, 1947. After her retirement from Entex in Houston, she moved to Kingsland. For the last seven years she was a resident of Parks Methodist Retirement Village. Lorayne was a 49-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her favorite pastime was playing the piano for her friends at Sherwood Place and Parks Methodist Retirement Village. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Lou Holcombe and husband, John, of Odessa; granddaughter, Susan Jones and husband, Mark, of Fort Worth; sister, Dorothy Rader of Houston; and nieces, Judy Wiggins and Frances McCarthy, both of Houston. _________________________________________________________________ Copyright © 2000 Odessa American.
