March 02, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Mildred G. Pope Cooper went to be with her Lord on Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, in Kingwood at the age of 84. Mildred was a lifelong resident of Odessa. She worked in the concession stand at the Twin Terrace Drive Inn during the 1950s and early 1960s. She was the first employee of Bobby Cox at the old drive up Texas Burger at 52nd Street and Andrews Highway, as the cook and manager during the 1960s and 1970s. She then went to work at Medical Center Hospital as the grill cook in the cafeteria until her retirement several years ago. She made many friends at the hospital. Mildred was a long time member of Kingston Avenue Baptist Church, where she was loved by all. She loved and was very involved in her church, where she served as hostess, chef and organizer for all holiday banquets, vacation Bible schools, funeral meals and church socials and celebrations and mission trips. She served on the Executive Board of the Odessa Baptist Association for many years also. One of her passions was to help coordinate and serve on the Meals On Wheels Board of Directors for many years, which she loved. Mildred was born June 14, 1915, in Oklahoma. She is predeceased by her husband, John D. Cooper. She is survived by children, Jimmy Pack of Dallas, Joyce Worley of Conroe and Kenny Cooper of Michigan. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. There will be a memorial service for Mildred at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Kingston Avenue Baptist Church, officiated by her longtime pastor and friend Dr. Ralph Thompson. Mildred will then be laid to rest in graveside services Saturday, March 4, 2000, in Durant, Okla. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Ruby Oleta Stout, 83, of Odessa died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. Mrs. Stout was born Feb. 24, 1917, in Stigler, Okla., and moved to Odessa in 1950. She married Loyd Harper Stout Aug. 15, 1936, in Stigler, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1986. Mrs. Stout was a member of Temple Baptist Church and was retired from the Ector County Independent School District where she worked as a cafeteria manager for many years. She is survived by sons, Don Stout and wife, Barbara, of Odessa, Bill Stout and wife, Alice Faye, of Stigler, Okla.; and daughter, Judy Evans and husband, Ronnie, of Odessa; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Oscar Parsons of Stigler, Okla.; sisters, Thelma Phillips and Mary Scates, both of Odessa, Vineta Vinzant of Muskogee, Okla., and Noretta Livesay of Stigler, Okla. She was preceded in death by her father, John Henery Parsons; her mother, Beulah Mae Parsons; stepmother, Grace Parsons; and sisters, Iona Forrest, Geneva Johnston and Naomi Henslee. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Thorpe officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Albert Adams, Jeff Houston, Webbie Russell, Randy Myers, Johnny Thomason and Corky Crowan. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons. Funeral services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Nelle Healy ODESSA — Nelle Healy died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at the age of 97 in Albuquerque, N.M. Her husband, Bernard Healy, preceded her in death in Odessa March 27, 1967. Nelle is survived by nieces, Patsy Estes of Albuquerque, N.M., and MaryAnn Conley of Arlington; and nephews, Thomas Joe Berry of Mesquite and Patrick J. Berry of Dallas. She was born Aug. 27, 1902, in Bridgeport of Swedish immigrant parents, Peter Hanson and Tena Ogren. At 22 years of age, she moved to Fort Worth to assume her lifelong career as a bookkeeper. She met and married Bernard Healy in 1931. They then moved to Monahans where he was active in oilfield drilling and lived there until 1933, at which time they moved to Odessa. When arriving in Odessa, she became active in the First Presbyterian Church where she was known as the oldest member of the church and served in many capacities from janitor to pianist to treasurer. In early years, First Presbyterian Church was located in a frame building on Texas Street, and during the depression, she kept the church money in a paper sack at her home since there were no banks. During her years in Odessa, she worked as bookkeeper for the Odessa American, Alps Oil Co., Paul Moss and Paul Slater, finally retiring in 1989 at the age of 87. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2000, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Sherry Holloman officiating. Interment took place Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nelle Healy’s name to First Presbyterian Church in Odessa.
