March 09, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Juan Belen "Tortugo" Torres (El Puerto Ricano), 57, went to be home with the Lord, Tuesday, March 7, 2000, after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 23, 1942, in Utado, Puerto Rico. He was a very hard-working and outspoken man, devoted to his family, and loved to play tricks on people. His hobbies were camping, fishing, cockfighting and raising animals. He was employed by Clayton Mobile Homes. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Vicki; daughters, Dixie Belen of Puerto Rico, Lisa Belen Torres, Sylvia Belen and Amy B. Jones of Odessa; sons, Norberto Belen of Puerto Rico and Juan Belen Jr. of Odessa; one precious grandson, Branden Lee Belen, that he adored so much; five brothers, Benito Belen, Andres Gonzales, Simon Gonzales, Papo Gonzales and David Belen, all of Puerto Rico; sisters, Merita Belen, Andrea Gonzales, Reyna Gonzales, all of Puerto Rico, and Lydia Gonzales of New Jersey. He is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces. His parents, who have gone to their rest, were Juan Belen and Placido Torres. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Reyito Belen; and sister, Luz Marie Belen of Puerto Rico. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ William Jackson Miller ODESSA — William Jackson Miller was born Dec. 7, 1911, in Baird. He passed away March 8, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2000, at the Sunset Memorial Chapel with Sam Jordan officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Miller married Jewel Williams in 1929. Jack, as he was known to everyone, resided at 1212 Century Ave., in Odessa and was a resident of Odessa since 1948. He is survived by his wife, Jewel Miller of Odessa; his sons, Billy D. Miller of Gardendale and W.E. Miller of Midland; his sisters, Marguerite McKinley, Connie Tucker and Lois Mendoza, all of Odessa; seven grandchildren; and a number of great- and great-great-grandchildren.
