March 11, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Ada Vivian Massengale, 83, of Odessa died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Deerings Nursing Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at First United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. J.T. Pugh and Terry Pugh officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. She was born Feb. 9, 1917, in Lakeview. She married the Rev. W.H. Massengale June 4, 1932, in Hollis, Okla. He preceded her in death Dec. 12, 1991. She also is preceded in death by her sons, Javon Wayne Massengale and Jerry Leon Massengale. Mrs. Massengale was a former pastor’s wife for the First United Pentecostal Church from 1951 to 1965. She and her husband pastored many churches in the Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma areas. Survivors include her daughters, Priscilla Smith of Odessa and Kathy Ruth Massengale of Youngstown, Ohio; son, Mark Massengale of Roswell, N.M.; daughters-in-law, Nora Massengale of Roswell, N.M., and Mary Massengale of Albuquerque, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ Isidoro "I.B." Gonzalez ODESSA — Isidoro "I.B." Gonzalez, 78, of Frisco, died March 9, 2000, at the Dallas VA Hospital. He was born April 21, 1921, in Buena Vista. Mr. Gonzalez was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy on Cameretta Island in the Pacific. He was a Baptist lay minister and loved to read the Bible. He owned Gonzalez Pest Control before his retirement. He is survived by sons, Roman Gonzalez of Hobbs, N.M., and Raymond Gonzalez of Austin; daughters, Arcilia Reyes of Monahans, Senaida "Sally" Chapa of Albuquerque, N.M., Elizabeth Lara of Andrews and Alicia Davidian of Frisco; a special niece, Eulalia "Lolly" Weaver of Odessa; 20 Grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Genaro Gonzalez of Odessa; and sisters, Tomasa Delgado and Antonia Dominquez, both of Austin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2000, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Jose Maria Garcia officiating. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2000, at Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. (www.wilsonfuneral.com) _________________________________________________________________ David Leon Kunkel ODESSA — At age 45, he was freed from this earthly bondage and went home to be with his Lord and Daddy March 9, 2000, from Parkview Nursing Home. David was born Jan. 19, 1955, in Odessa to Alden Kunkel and Jean Poland Kunkel. He worked as a medication nurse before his accident. He was a lifetime Baptist and a devoted Christian, a friend to all he met. He is survived by his mother, Jean Kunkel; brothers, Ray and Sharon Kunkel of Odessa and Clem and Elene Kunkel of Banning, Calif.; sisters, Mary and Haston Magnuson of Sumner and Rhonda Green of Odessa. His nieces and nephews will miss him terribly, Rhoda and Steve Harper and Carol Magnuson, all of Sumner, Alden Ray and Misty Kunkel and Amber Brock, all of Odessa, Christi and Luther Ward of Waco, Kelly Kunkel, Wes Magby and Luke Kunkel, all of Carlsbad, N.M. He adored his great-nieces and nephew, Katie and Casey Harper of Sumner and Alexis Ward of Waco. His father and a nephew, Charlie Paul Green, preceded him in death. His family will mark his passing with a celebration service at Pyles Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2000. Services will be conducted under Gene Roden’s Sons with Captain Gene Tharp and Carl Hughes officiating. Those who knew David rejoice in his victory over this hardship called life and know he is walking with his Daddy on golden streets right now.
