March 12, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — William Elmer Owen, 74, went home to be with the Lord on Friday March 10, 2000, at Seabury Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 22, 1926, on a farm outside Robert Lee to Babe and Dora Owen His family moved to Ector County in 1938, and he graduated Odessa High School in 1944. He got a job with Arco as a swamper in 1945 and worked for the company for 40 years before retiring in 1985 as an engineering technician specialist. After retiring, he liked to raise a spring garden, fish and work in his wood shop designing his own woodcrafts and giving each family member at least two of each thing he made. His health failed in March of I998, and he moved to Seabury Nursing Home, where he loved to help with the other residents and anywhere else that he was needed. The staff there nicknamed him "Bill". He met a special friend, Arla Haney, and they spent hours together, listening to tapes, talking, going to the singings and ordering Mexican food. Aria went home to be with the Lord in February. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his son, Jerry Alton Owen; brother, Lewis Owen; and his parents, Babe and Dora Owen. He is survived by his daughters, Kelly Redding and husband, Brian, of Lampasas and Robin Owen and fiancé, Henry Ovalle, of Boston; three grandchildren, Kevin and Brandy Redding and Donovan Owen; two brothers, Billy Owen and wife, Elaine, of Odessa and Dean Owen and wife, Lee, of Marysville, Wash.; two sisters, Carrie Spears and Jean Welch of Odessa. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. (www.wilsonfuneral.com) _________________________________________________________________ Juanita Ruth Shackelford AUSTIN — To one whom bears the sweetest name, "Mother." Juanita Ruth Shackelford passed away peacefully Friday, March 10, 2000, at North Austin Medical Center. Her sons, Tom and Noel, daughter-in-law, Gail, grandson, Westley and good friend, Albert Sandoval were at her side, as Glen Miller’s "Moon Light Serenade" played in the background. It was her favorite music. Juanita was born on June 19, 1928, in Abilene and spent her childhood in Maybank and San Angelo. She was a longtime resident of Odessa. She loved her family, worked hard and made many friends. The nurses said she was a doll. She is survived by five children, Katherine Ann Cheshire, Thomas C. Cheshire and wife, Gail, Johnnie Shackelford, Doris Taylor Anderson and Noel C. Shackelford. The family would like to extend a special thanks to our cousins, Johnny Williams, Susie Kennedy and Kelly Kennedy; and Francis Barnett, Juanita’s good friend for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her beloved great-aunt, Ethel Hallie " Biggie" Rector. Juanita will be buried in Ector County Cemetery with private graveside services.
