March 26, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Roger Allen Byer was born Jan. 16, 1936, to Gilbert Orrin and Nellie May (Moore) Byer in Waynesfield, Ohio. He passed away Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital following a massive heart attack. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2000, at Second Baptist Church in Midland with Pastor H.W. Erwin Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Roger Byer has been a resident of the Odessa community for 19 years and also served as a member of Second Baptist Church of Midland. Mr. Byer was employed as an Industrial Mechanic with Knighten Machine and Service Inc., for 13 years, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) since 1967, holding numerous offices in Odessa and Wapakoneta, Ohio, fraternities. Survivors include his wife, Nelis Y. (Presnell) Byer of Odessa; sons, Ernest G. Byer Sr. of Odessa, Roger A. Byer Jr. and wife, Pauline, of Bucyrus, Ohio; stepson, Jim Presnell Jr. and wife, Patsy, of Plano; daughters, Charlene M. Byer-Clark of Truth or Consequences, N.M., and Peggy L. Walters and husband, Kenny, of Odessa; stepdaughters, Linda A. Posey and Jane L. Brown and husband, Roy, all of Midland, Rosa M. Riley and husband, Bill, of Lubbock; daughter-in-law, Cindy Byer, who was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Byer Sr. He is also survived by his brothers, Clyde Byer and wife, Arlene, of Wapakoneta, Ohio, William Wolf Byer of Lima, Ohio; sisters, Bonnie Byer of Columbus, Ohio, Wanda Yoder and husband, Charles, of La Grange, Ind., Sharon Hudson and husband, Darrel, Margaret Harmon and her husband, Pearl, and Betty Holland, all of Lima, Ohio. Mr. Byer has 22 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Roger Allen Byer was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet L. (Jeffries) Byer; son, David L. Services entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Hal Blake Lambert Jr. ODESSA — Hal Blake Lambert Jr. died Thursday, March 23, 2000, in Alpine. Blake was born November 12, 1956, in Austin and grew up in Odessa, where he graduated from Permian High School. He received bachelors degrees from both Texas Christian University, where he lettered in football, and Texas A&M University. After graduating from Texas A&M, Blake worked for Linbeck Construction. His work took him to Houston; Atlanta; Mobile, Ala.; and Washington D.C. Blake married Madelaine LaFlamme, and they have two children, Amanda and Andrew. He also is survived by his mother and stepfather, Joann and Ed Magruder of Odessa; father, Hal Lambert of Odessa; brother, Louis R. Lambert of Austin; and sister, Elizabeth Lambert of Austin. Blake was preceded in death by his brother Lyndon Lambert. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church of Odessa with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Hilton and the Rev. Phil Kanz officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: Marks Gillham, Robert Rodman, Allan Gobel, Charles Ball, Vernon DeBolt and Bobby McKnight. Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Alice Edna Caywood, 88, of Odessa died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke’s Methodist Church with the Revs. Don Caywood and Kevin Strempke officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was born Nov. 3, 1911, in Baird. She married Don Caywood in Prescott, Ariz. He preceded her in death Dec. 19, 1989. Mrs. Caywood graduated from Clyde High School in 1929. She moved in 1949, to Odessa where her husband was in the car business. Alice was a longtime member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, and was a faithful member of the Christopher Class. She leaves to cherish her memory her many friends and family and the members of the Christopher Class of St. Luke’s Methodist Church. The family is grateful for all the loving kindness to our mother and grandmother shown by all her many friends and request memorials be made to St. Luke’s Methodist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews, Fred Goble, Dr. Jack Mobley, Paul Jean Ross and Jimmy Ross. She was born Jan. 16, 1941, in Joshua. Sue married Curtis Marion Brazil on Sept. 16, 1974, and they moved to Odessa in 1975. As a member of the West University Church of Christ. She gave her life to her Lord and her family. Sue is survived by her three children, Paula Raye Hassler and husband, Mike Hassler, Mary Elaine Cooper and James Harvey Cooper and wife, Chelle Cooper, all of Odessa, brothers, Charles A White of Jewett and Wilburn Lee White of Fort Worth; three halfbrothers, Don White of Millsap, Eddie Gene White of Tillamook, Oregon, and Rickie Wayne White of Burleson; halfsister, Judy Kay Watson of Tillamook, Oregon; stepsisters, May Ratcliff of Rendon and Ruth Alberta Barr of Alverado; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Curtis, both parents, one sister and one stepbrother. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Combs, 90, of Odessa died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jim Ray Brown officiating. He was born April 24, 1909, in Seminole, Okla. He married Elda Combs July 14, 1928, in Shawnee, Okla. She preceded him in death in 1990. Mr. Combs moved to Odessa 35 years ago from Duncan, Okla. He was a retired drilling superintendent and pumper. He was a member of Andy Vaughn Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his sons, Jessie Combs of Odessa and Eugene Combs of Canada; and five grandchildren, Craig Combs, Jamie Combs, Christopher Combs, Cathey Bradley and Caroyln Springaite. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Wanda Stanley, 67, of Odessa died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at New Horizons Nursing Home. Services were held Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was born Feb. 19, 1933, in Gail. She married James Robert Stanley May 7, 1951, in Roswell, N.M. He preceded her in death Oct. 29, 1999. Mrs. Stanley moved to Odessa in 1955 from Balmorhea. She has been a resident of New Horizon Nursing Home for the past five years. She had been active in various community work such as Meals On Wheels, Door of Hope Mission, Salvation Army and Christian Women’s Club. She loved to fish and be with her family. She took pride and joy in her grandchildren. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church. She started the bereavement program at the church. She attended First Baptist Church in Blackwell while at the lake. Survivors include her sons, Marvin Stanley and wife, Sandy, of Odessa and Raymond Stanley and wife, Kelly, of Odessa; daughters, Towana Jo Bell and husband, Roy, of Odessa and Tyann Niemann and husband, Steve, of Odessa; mother, Edna Belle Haney Cook of Big Spring; brothers, Pecos Cook of Balmorhea and Jack Cook of Odessa; sisters, Juanita Rogers of Lubbock, Dolly Bryant of Big Spring, Vera "Sissy" Martin of Big Spring and Linda Armstead of Levelland; ten grandchildren, Danielle Swinson Bell, Elizabeth Stanley, Crystal Stanley, Tiffany Niemann, Ruth Stanley, Nicole Niemann, Doug Stanley, Stephanie Niemann, Shawn Niemann and Landry Stanley. Services were entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Bobby James Tidwell ANDREWS — Bobby James Tidwell, 54, went to be with his beloved parents, James Edward "Eddie", who preceded him in death in 1961 and Grace Marie in 1989, both were from Wink. Bobby married Wanda Jo Prater in 1964 in Wink. They had two children: daughter, Tammy Marie Ashabranner and her husband, Jeff, of Frisco; son, Jeffery James and his wife, Margurita, of Engleside; and four grandchildren. Bobby was employed by Holligan Homes in the home office of Dallas as a supervisor. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews with Rev. Ted Short, pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Andrews, officiating. Burial will be in the Kermit Cemetery.
