March 27, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — George Ray McGill passed away March 25, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital after enjoying a full and gratifying life of 68 years. He was born Dec. 21, 1931, in Springer, N.M. George moved to Odessa in June 1976 and started McGill Construction. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Odessa. A veteran of the Korean War, he served as a First Sergeant in the 542nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion. George is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Martha Franklin McGill, six children, Raye McGill Blumthal of Samantha, Ala., Julie K. Salsman of Springdale, Ark., Dan C. McGill, Rex W. McGill, Nancy G. McGill and Keith E. McGill, all of Fayetteville, Ark.; four stepchildren Kathy Edgar of Plano, Buddy Franklin of Cedar Park, Matt Franklin of Leander and Craig Franklin of San Antonio. George was the proud grandfather of 25 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers, Howard, Don, Walter, Ed and Randy; three sisters, Linda, Cheryl and Marie. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lannie, and his grandson, Drew Joseph McGill. The family invites George’s friends to a memorial service in celebration of his life at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at First Baptist Church.
