March 28, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Michael Wayne Clardy MUNDFORD, Tenn. — Mike was born Oct. 21, 1948, in Graham. He died Friday, March 17, 2000, in Atoka, Tenn. Services were held at Munford Funeral Home. Burial was at Crigger Cemetery. Mike attended high school in Hobbs, N.M. He enlisted in the service of his country and was a medical aidman with the First Division 18th infantry, First Battalion in Vietnam. During his tour of duty Clardy was awarded a Gold Star for outstanding courage, heroism and bravery against hostile forces; four Bronze Stars for heroism in combat; a silver star for outstanding courage, heroism and bravery against hostile forces. Mike was awarded an Army Accommodation Medal for meritorious achievement in the Republic of the Vietnam. On subsequent tours of duty, he served as a physician’s assistant at Army Hospitals in Seattle, Germany and Fort Riley, Kan. Clardy was employed by Union Carbide in Houston and moved to Millington, Tenn., as a plant superintendent. He participated in many plant start ups in Texas, New York and Puerto Rico. Mike received an early retirement due to medical problems and settled in Atoka, Tenn. He was an active outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and he had a passion for golf. Survivors include his wife, Jan of Atoka, Tenn.; mother and stepfather, Juanita and Jack Smith of Odessa; son, Michael of Lubbock; daughter, Mika and Daniella; stepdaughters, Jenny and Becky; brothers, Terry of Hobbs, N.M., and Billy of Perryton; sister, Mary of Houston; and six grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Adam S. Gonzales, Sr., 74, of Odessa died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Deerings Nursing Home. He was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Roswell, N.M. He moved to Odessa from Corpus Christi in 1957 and married Francisca Montoya, March 13, 1959, in Odessa. He retired in 1985 as a tire serviceman with General Tire and was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. E. P. Gonzales and Andrea S. Gonzales; son, Edward Gonzales; and brothers, David, Regino and Daniel Gonzales. Survivors include his wife, Francisca M. Gonzales; sons, Robert Joe Gonzales, Adam Gonzales Jr., Javier Gonzales, Jaime Gonzales and Joel Gonzales, all of Odessa; brothers, Gregorio Gonzales of Snyder, Hiram Gonzales of Midland, Raul Gonzales of Oklahoma City and Ismael Gonzales of Snyder; sisters, Juanita Cadena of Snyder, Eva Morin of Corpus Christi and Ruth Arauza of Abilene. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at the First Baptist Church in Kermit with the Dr. Randy Houston officiating and the Rev. G. A. Magee assisting. Burial will follow in the Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cooper Funeral Chapel. Mack was born April 5, 1921, to M.M. and Pearl Gregg in Eastland County. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Montrose during World War II. Before retirement, Mack worked as a machinist, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kermit. He and his wife Youtha lived in Kermit for 48 years. Survivors include his wife, Youtha Milford Gregg of Kermit; son and his wife, Gerry and Anita of Big Lake; daughter, Cynthia Kay Bass of San Angelo; son-in-law Jerry D. Bass of Eldorado; sister, Ruth Nichols of Fort Worth; sisters-in-law, Allene Thompson of Holland, Texas, and Villa Gregg of Port Neches; five grandchildren, Ryan Bass and fiance, Regina, of Colorado City, Bradley Bass and wife, Mitzi, of San Angelo, Lindsey Edmiston and husband, Justin, of Eagle Pass, Cody Gregg and wife, Suzanne, of McAllen and Kimberly Flores and husband, Steven, of Mansfield; and great-grandchildren, Gracen and Gradyn Bass, Trace Edmiston, Andrew and Hannah Gregg, Isabel Flores and Kyle Ward. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — After a long, well fought war, Alan Dale McAfee, 49, lost his final battle with melanoma March 26, 2000. He was born June 25, 1950, to Estell and Jeri McAfee at Fort Dix, N.J. His family moved to Odessa briefly in late 1950 before settling in Mesa, Ariz. He returned to Odessa in 1963 after the death of his father. He graduated from Permian High School in 1968 and served in the United States Navy from 1968 through 1972. While in the Navy, he served one tour in Vietnam. After leaving the Navy, Dale returned to Odessa. He went to work for El Paso Products, which later became Huntsman, in the Material Warehouse. He was highly respected by his co-workers and took great pride in a job well done. He was employed by Huntsman at the time of his death. Dale married Kay Foster in l974. That union produced a daughter, Nikki, and a son, JB. Dale married his soulmate, Jodi Williamson, Aug. 15, 1986. Dale held high standards for his family, friends and co-workers. As much as he always expected from others, he never asked for more than he was willing to give. Dale was an avid pool shooter. He loved playing video games, golf and going camping. He thoroughly enjoyed working in his yard and tending his trees. Dale had a wry sense of humor that stayed with him to the end of his battle. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and co-workers. Dale was preceded in death by his father, Estell McAfee; mother, Jeri Alford; and his brother, Jerry McAfee. Dale is survived by his wife, Jodi McAfee; daughter, Nikki McAfee; son, JB McAfee; grandsons, Dakota and Dylan; brother and sister-in-law, Riley and Jenifer McAfee of Chandler, Ariz.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Candy and Mike Darst, of Queen Creek, Ariz., Sherry and Doug Rosenberger, of Odessa, Gail and Joe Schmidt of Pittsburg, Kan.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ken and Nancy Williamson, of Wilson, N.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — George Ray McGill passed away March 25, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital after enjoying a full and gratifying life of 68 years. He was born Dec. 21, 1931, in Springer, N.M. George moved to Odessa in June 1976 and started McGill Construction. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Odessa. A veteran of the Korean War, he served as a First Sergeant in the 542nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion. George is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Martha Franklin McGill, six children, Raye McGill Blumthal of Samantha, Ala., Julie K. Salsman of Springdale, Ark., Dan C. McGill, Rex W. McGill, Nancy G. McGill and Keith E. McGill, all of Fayetteville, Ark.; four stepchildren Cathy Eggar of Plano, Buddy Franklin of Cedar Park, Matt Franklin of Leander and Craig Franklin of San Antonio. George was the proud grandfather of 25 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers, Howard, Don, Walter, Ed and Randy; three sisters, Linda, Cheryl and Marie. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lannie, and his grandson, Drew Joseph McGill. The family invites George’s friends to a memorial service in celebration of his life at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at First Baptist Church. "Red" Reeves, 91, of Odessa passed away Sunday, March 26, 2000, in a local nursing home. Mr. Reeves was born Aug. 20, 1908, in Wilberton, Okla., to Lovie Mae and Edward D. Reeves. Mr. Reeves was a veteran of the Air Force and served in the China, Burma India Theater during World War Il. Mr. Reeves married Frances Forester March 11, 1939, in Decatur. He had lived in Odessa since the 1930’s and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He had worked for Humble Pipeline Company and later Exxon Oil Company for 38 years. He had held several positions with the company including pipeliner, oiler, machinist, mechanical supervisor and senior mechanic. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Left Handed Golfers Association and had been made a lifetime member of TALG in May 1994. Even though he and Frances loved golfing together, he never lost sight of the years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances F. Reeves of Odessa; sisters, Clara McGaha of Hobbs, N.M., and Joyce Ray of New Ulm; brothers, Louie E. Reeves and his wife, Evelyn, of Hobbs, Clyde A. Reeves and his wife, Lena, of Levelland and Henry B. Reeves and his wife, Ethel, of Hayward, Calif.; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2000, in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Heggemeier officiating. The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church or your favorite charity. _________________________________________________________________ James "Dutch" McWaters ATLANTA, Texas — James "Dutch" McWaters, 83, of Atlanta, Texas, died Monday, March 27, 2000, in Atlanta. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hanner Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Chapman officiating. Burial will be at Anitoch Cemetery in Cass County. He was born Sept. 30, 1916, in Cass County. He was a member of the original Midway Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army. He was a 32nd degree Mason. HE married Lora Powell in 1934. He is survived by his daughter, Jimmie Sue "Jim" White and husband, Charles, of Atlanta, Texas; sisters-in-law, Leola McWaters, Maggie McWaters and Nell Lester, all of Atlanta; and brother-in-law, Carl Wilkinson of Ohio; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, Kathryn McWaters, Will, Keverlie, Jessica, Joshua, Michael, Naomie and Jacob. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Imogene Frances Seabolt was born Sept. 25, 1927, to Judd and Ruby Davidson in Odessa. She passed away Sunday, March 26, 2000 at Medical Center Hospital. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2000, at the Sunset Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Pool officiating. Burial will then follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Imogene married E.W. "Frosty" Seabolt Oct. 1, 1946, in Odessa. He preceded her in death April 27, 1966. She was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of Odessa. She was also a member of Westwood Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughters, Diane Myers and her husband, Ray, and Debra Slocumb, all of Odessa; brother, Leo Davidson of Garland; grandchildren, Angelia Slocumb, Steve Slocumb, Jennifer Myers, Brian Myers, all of Odessa; great-grandchildren; Bryan and Ryan Slocumb, Christopher Takeda, Patrick Takeda, and Taylor Slocumb, all of Odessa. Services entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens. _________________________________________________________________ Wesley Edwin "Ed" Templeton ROBERT LEE — Wesley Edwin Templeton, 82, passed away March 25, 2000, at his residence after a lengthy illness. Mr. Templeton "Ed/Temp" was born July 27, 1917, in Idabelle, Okla. He married Ethlyn "Little" Brooks Nov. 13, 1940, in St. Louis, Mo. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army in Germany after the occupation. He was a member of the Baptist faith. He made his living as a welder in Crane, Ozona and other West Texas towns until his retirement to Lake Spence at Robert Lee in 1985. Ed Templeton was an avid fisherman, great storyteller, beloved husband and father, and was loved by all his family and friends. He made life enjoyable for all around him with his zest for living. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josiah and Rhoda Pettigrew Templeton; brother, Andy and an infant brother. He is survived by his wife, "Little" of Robert Lee; daughters, Ronnie and her husband, Herman Scale, of Sun City, Ariz., and Brenda and her husband, Leslie Sharp, of Crane; sisters, Baye Tennery of Effingham, Ill., and Nobbie Doty of Fortuna, Calif.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his wife’s identical twin sister, Big and her husband, Robert Nix who have been lifetime companions with Ed and Little since their youth. There will be a small private family service in Crane. Local arrangements are under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home and the Crane arrangements will be handled by Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Wright married Jack Wright Aug. 7, 1943, in Oklahoma. They moved to Odessa in the early 1950’s from Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and member of Northside Baptist Church. She loved to teach children in Sunday school. She liked to collect dolls of all kinds. She was a very even tempered person. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wright, in 1972; and her son, Danny Wayne Wright. She is survived by sons, Harold Wright of Japan, Billy Wright, Ricky Wright and Philip Paul Wright, all of Odessa; daughters, Mary Ann Rodgers and Marilyn Kay Harper, both of Odessa, and Sharon Gay Courtney of Lubbock; brothers, Cleborn Dobbins of Oklahoma City, Kenneth Dobbins of Wynnewood, Okla., Dillard Dobbins Jr. of Lubbock and Carl Dobbins of Gladewater; sisters, Della Maddox of Stratford, Okla., and Eva Dobbins of Wynnewood, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ James W. Wilson RIO RANCHO, N.M. — James W. Wilson, a resident of Rio Rancho, N.M., passed away Sunday, March 26, 2000. He was born Sept. 28, 1931, to Edward and Annie Boyd Wilson in Haworth, Okla. James was a veteran of the Navy. He enjoyed watching college basketball games and his passion was his work. James also loved his visits to the family cabin in Ruidoso, N.M. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends. James was preceded in death by his brothers, Lewis and Bill Wilson. He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn F. Wilson of Rio Rancho, NM., children, Deann Wilson and Chris Wilson, both of Odessa; sisters, Louise and husband, Truman Byrne, of Oklahoma, Ione and husband, Buck McBrayer, of Washington; brothers, Alvin and wife, Mary B. Wilson and Floyd Wilson, both of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Keli, Lauren, Colton, Kendall and Haley; stepsons, Jeff and wife, Melissa Miller, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Quin Miller of Roswell, N.M.; and his previous wife, Carolyn R.
