April 1, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Walter D. Gober BROWNWOOD — Walter D. Gober, former Odessa resident and businessman, Ioving husband and father, 88, currently of Abilene, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2000, at Hendrick Hospice in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be In Eastlawn Memorial Park. Walter was born April 27, 1911, in McCollough County and was raised in Brownwood. On Oct. 15, 1932, he married Helen England, who preceded him in death on July 4, 1999. He owned and operated a number of businesses during the years he lived in Odessa. He last operated Gober & Son’s Inc., a masonry supply business. Upon retirement, Walter and Helen lived at Lake Amstead near Del Rio and Lake Spence near Robert Lee. They moved to Abilene in 1997. Walter was a member of Pecan Baptist Church in Coke County. Survivors include his children, David Gober and wife, Grace, of Abilene, Jack Gober and wife, Maggie, of Odessa, Anna Brazzel and husband, Ray, of Abilene, Margie Thornton and husband, Ron, of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Jana and Jubal Zimmerman, Dana and Andy Wilbarger, Rhonda Gail, Jack W. Gober, Tonya and Todd Tillman, Stephen and Julie Brazzel, Kim Brazzel, Leighana Thornton, Anthony and Raye Thornton; nine great-grandchildren; his sisters, Linnie Green of Lake Whitney, Edna Wagnon and husband, Jack, of Odessa, Elsie Bean and Inez Lack, both of Brownwood; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John Frances and Lucy Gober; his brothers, John Albert and Elton Gober and sister, Myrtle Adams. Pallbearers are: Jerry Smith, James Smith, Wayne Miller, Darwin Coker, Tom Roland and Ray Miller. Memorials may be made to hospice or a charity of your choice. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Carolyn Sue Vickers of Odessa died March 31, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born to Alvis and Geneva Renick April 16, 1947, in Lamesa. She married Mark Vickers on July 4, 1981. She was a beautician at the salon at Lincoln Towers and a longtime resident of Odessa and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Mark Vickers of Odessa; sons, Tony McClinton and Richard McClinton, both of Odessa; mother, Geneva Renick of Odessa; brother, Sam Renick of Del City, Okla.; sisters, Sharon Frye and Bobbye Goodson, both of Odessa; grandchildren, Beau and Chase McClinton, Tommy and Megan McClinton, Brooklyn and BA Liegh McClinton. Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Alvis "Frog" Renick; and her son, Vince McClinton. Services will be Monday, April 3, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James Bridges officiating.
