April 07, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Mary Jane Fox, 76, passed away April 1, 2000. She was born March 3, 1925, in Palestine, to Clarence and Mary Irene Smith. She was a homemaker and member of Carter Chapel. Mrs. Fox is survived by sons, John W. Fox and Verdell Fox, both of Odessa; daughters, Jean Kelly and Christina Stanford, both of Brownfield; brothers, Alvirtis Smith of Brownfield and Eddie Will of Los Angeles; sisters, Verna May Jones of Odessa and Loretta Jones of Tyler; 31 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2000, at Odessa Funeral Home. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Services by Odessa Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ John Anthony Gates CRANE — Beloved husband, beloved father, beloved grandfather and beloved great grandfather, John Anthony Gates, 72, of Crane passed away Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Midland. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2000, at Richard W. Box Funeral Home Chapel in Crane with the Rev. Tommy Parker officiating. Military graveside services will be held at Crane County Cemetery and services are under the direction of Richard W. Box Funeral Home. Johnny was born May 2, 1927. He married Betty Bates June 5, 1952. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He worked as an oilfield supervisor for Pride Well Service and other well service companies in the West Texas area. He retired in 1998. He was a resident of Crane for 37 years. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mamie Gates; five sisters; and two brothers. Johnny is survived by his wife, Betty Nadine Gates; daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Michael Kelly of Denver City, Debbie and Doug Mann of Eagle River, Alaska, and Judy and Jimmie Wilson of Odessa; grandchildren, Dalyn and Janalyn Epperson of Denver City, John and James Kelly of Lubbock, Nicholas and Benjamin Wilson of Odessa, Christopher and Kasci Mann of Eagle River, Alaska; great-grandchildren, Meegan Dee Wilson of Odessa and Mikhayla Epperson of Denver City; sister, Sister Mary Charolotte, Reverend Sisters of Mercy of Omaha, Neb., and several nieces and nephews.
