"Red" Austin passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born in Malvern, Iowa, January 11, 1927, to Frank and Dorothy Austin and was raised by his aunt, Ruth Williamson. He served in the Navy during World War II and studied electronics in college. He married Donna Mae Jones Feb. 25, 1951, in Creston, Iowa. They moved to Artesia, N.M., where he worked as chief engineer for KSVP Radio Station. In 1954, they moved to Midland where he worked for CECO until 1966 when he bought an interest in Commercial Radio Service and moved to Odessa. After retiring in 1984, he went to work for Western Electronics as an engineer, and later, at Avalon Institute and Odessa College as an electronics instructor. He was currently employed by KMID-TV as an engineer and thoroughly loved the challenge, the activities and the people there. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna; daughters, Jeannie Crane and her husband, Jerry Crane, Barbara McKim and her husband, David McKim, Colleen Bentley and her husband, Paul Bentley, Karen Standiford, Debbie Hutson and her husband, Kimbo Hutson; grandchildren, Brandy McKim Hough, Casey McKim, Ben McKim, Robbie Bentley, Beth Bentley, Willie Standiford, Ronnie Standiford, Ryan Standiford, Rachael Jones, Hollie Hutson, Kenneth Huston and Michael Huston; great-grandchildren, Nigel Jones and Abigale Bentley. He enjoyed reading and flying sail planes and was an avid MOJO fan. The family requests memorials to go to Easter Seals or the Shriner’s Hospital. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. She passed away April 12, 2000, at her residence after a lengthy illness. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will then follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Marlene was a 1958 graduate of Odessa High School. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Mrs. Maddox worked at Seabury Nursing Center for 13 years, where she was a dedicated and loving caregiver. Marlene’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her. She married Lloyd Keith Maddox Dec. 13, 1961, and had three daughters. Marlene was of the Nazarene faith. Survivors include her daughters, Marsann Bryant and husband, John, Keithlyn Woodall and husband, Tommy, and Christie Maddox, all of Odessa.
