May 09, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — God called his special angel, Richard Gray "Judge" Hungerford home Saturday, May 6, 2000. He was born Aug. 24, 1922, in North Texas and at age 13 moved to Big Lake. He eventually moved to Monahans, where he entered the Air Force during World War II, and married Tommy Cochran on June 1, 1943, in Wickett. He worked for the Gulf Oil Gas Plant in Wickett and then Warren Petroleum Gasoline plant outside of Crane and moved to Odessa in 1955. He retired in December of 1980 and took office as Justice of the Peace in Ector County in 1981 serving three consecutive terms. He has been a constable in Ector County, worked with the Boy Scouts of America, a reserve deputy with the Ector County Sheriffs Department and a charter member of the West Odessa Volunteer Fire Department. He was loved by many and had been a tireless volunteer. Survivors include his wife, Tommy, of Odessa; daughters and sons-in-law, Sidne Tiemann and husband, John, of Austin and Charla Larie and husband, Sanford, of Midland; son and daughter-in-law, Richard G. Hungerford Jr. and wife, Becky, of Mahomet, Ill.; two grandchildren, Renna and Richard III; and one great grandson, Dakota. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today, May 9, 2000, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. (www. wilsonfuneral.com) _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Bonnita Lauderdale Taylor Hirst was known to her many friends as "Bonnie." She died peacefully May 8, 2000, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. Bonnie was born July 31, 1916, in Alix, Ark., to Hollie Morgan Moore and Robert Moore. Bonnie was a resident of Odessa since 1947. She was employed at the old S&Q Clothier’s (later Quicksilver’s) as a bookkeeper/credit manager, and later worked for Orbit Valve Company for 14 years. She was active in and served as past president of Odessa Desk and Derrick. She was a licensed and certified drug abuse and alcoholism counselor. She was active in AA and spoke at and attended many conventions nationwide. She was also active in Odessa Chamber of Commerce as a Goodwill Ambassador for a number of years. In the latter years of her life, she enjoyed being a member of the Senior Citizens Dance Club of Odessa. She is survived by her husband, Art Hirst of Odessa; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Scorp Boyles of Del Rio; stepson and daughter-in-law, Ron and Jodi Taylor of Del Rio; sister, Velma "Mac" Williams of Odessa; niece, Becky Forbus of Odessa; nephews, Marty Williams and Michael Williams; and four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, Steven Smith. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Ernest Easley officiating. Burial will follow at Andrews West Cemetery in Andrews. Service entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ KERMIT — Dollie Mae Grissom, 82, of Kermit, retired owner of Keystone Cleaners, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at her residence. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Redwine officiating. Burial will be at Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Chapel. She was born July 2, 1917, in Burkburnett and had been a resident of Kermit for 53 years. She married Harold Grissom on July 24, 1934, in Marshall. He preceded her in death Dec. 25, 1983. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of Kermit, V.F.W. Post No. 6284. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Dean Grissom; and daughter, Ervalene Gore. Survivors include her brother, Lewis Redwine of Kermit; sister, Ethel Donahoe of Montgomery; grandchildren, Teri Jo Woodson of Arlington, Rick Allen Gore of Benbrook, Tonnia Lambert and Tommy M. Gore Jr., both of Rendon, and Harold Dean Grissom and Richard Wayne Grissom, both of Odessa; and eight great-grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Imogene Parker, 87, lovingly known as Mushie or Mush, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church Odessa with Dr. Ernest Easley officiating. Private burial will precede the memorial service. Imogene Cox was born November 3, 1912, in Prairie Grove, Texas, to Milton Dean Cox and Iva Mae Beemon. She was reared in Mexia but moved to Lubbock and later to Midland, graduating from Midland High School in 1930. She studied home economics at Texas Tech before marrying Ray Lindley Parker on February 10, 1933, and moving to the Parker ranch in Notrees. After ranching three years, the Parkers moved to Midland and then to Odessa. In Odessa, Ray and Imogene Parker joined the First Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher for many years and was on the pulpit committee that called Dr. John Rasco. In 1953, she was selected First Lady of Odessa. She was responsible for the organization of the local chapter of the League of Women Voters and served on its state board. She had been a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and was presently a member of The Odessa Study Club and D.A.R. She and her husband served on the Development Council at Baylor University. She is survived by sons, James Milton Parker and wife, Carol, of Sonora and Philip Lind Parker Sr. and wife, Susan, of Odessa; brother, Dean Beeman Cox and wife, Dorothy, of Midland; sister, Louise Scurlock, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; ten grandchildren, Mark Lind Parker and wife, Nancy, of Waxahachie, Craig Carl Parker and wife, Janice, of Andrews, Gregg Ray Parker and wife, Erma, of Odessa, Kathryn Leighton Howie and husband, Ed, of Atlanta, JoEllen Kaye Aldridge and, husband, Lance of Addison, Texas, Pamela Cox Parker of Los Angeles and Philip Lind Parker, Jr. of Waco; eight great-grandchildren, James Ray Parker of Refugio, Texas, Lori and Rebecca Parker of Waxahachie, Gray and Chanley Parker of Andrews, Sarah and Parker Howie of Atlanta and Victoria Parker of Odessa; as well as many nieces and nephews. Imogene was preceded in death by her husband Ray, in 1975; her parents, M.D. in 1959 and Iva Mae in 1974; and two sisters, Mary Zue Cox in 1920 and Juanita Sherrod in 1997. Family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Odessa or to the charity of your choice. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Services entrusted to Frank W.
