May 19, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ MIDLAND — Kathryn Sue Herbert left this world Tuesday, May 16, 2000, surrounded by her family. Her life was a labor of love to her family and to her God. She was born Sept. 6, 1938, in Dallas, to William Cleveland and Kathryn Frances Chatham Jeffries. She moved to Odessa with her family in 1948, where she attended school and graduated from Odessa High in 1956. On Sept. 1, 1956, she married William Kenneth Herbert in Odessa. Since the time of her marriage, Mrs. Herbert was an ever faithful, considerate, comforting, supportive wife with a fervent love for her husband. The Herberts moved to Midland in 1999. Mrs. Herbert’s mission was to love God and to comply to his will. She was a member of the Eisenhower Church of Christ where she served in so many ways, always putting others before herself, including family, friends and even those she vaguely knew. Mrs. Herbert’s life was an exemplary practice of the Golden Rule. She taught Bible class for 40 years. Mrs. Herbert had a beautiful voice and loved to sing at church and with her family. Her parents preceded Mrs. Herbert in death. Yet her legacy of love lives on in her survivors. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Kenneth Herbert of Midland; her son and his wife, Kelly and Jane Herbert, their children, Levi and Sarah, all of Katy; her daughter and her husband, Holly and Jeff Wesson, their children, Micah, Jacey, Craig, and Cody, all of Midland; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Madilene Herbert of Midland; her uncles, George and W. R. Chatham, both of Odessa; and her aunt, Lorena Jeffries Ford of Cleburne. Those close to her will ever remember her strength and her constant kindness. She often quoted Ephesians 4:32 regarding a kind spirit. She loved helping grandchildren with reading, cooking, homework and projects. Mrs. Herbert loved flowers, traveling, genealogy, and cooking. She was well known for her wonderful homemade buttermilk biscuits and poundcake. Her family offers a wonderful tribute: "she always made home happy." Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2000, at Eisenhower Church of Christ in Odessa with Burt Groves and Eddie Parrish officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Memorials may be made through donations to the Youth Fund at Eisenhower Church of Christ, Odessa Christian School, and/or Midland Home Hospice. We celebrate the life of Sue Herbert and know that the promise to God’s children is that our souls live on in a place on the other side that is far, far better than we can imagine.
