May 21, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Joyce Laverne Kaufman, 54, of Odessa died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dewey Blevins officiating. She was born Sept. 11, 1945, in Monahans. Mrs. Kaufman moved to Odessa in 1971 from Andrews. She was a homemaker and a Protestant. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Pace; and sister, Glenda Tinsley. Survivors include her boyfriend, Kenneth Sullivan of Odessa; son, Danny Halbrooks Sr. of Odessa; daughters, Regina Hal-brooks of Odessa, Tonya Ritchey of Tyler and Sheila Sedillo of Denton; stepdaughter, Kendra Sullivan of Odessa; brother, Glydon "Buddy" Pace of Odessa, Raymond Pace of Willow, Okla., William Pace of Phoenix, David Pace Jr. of Big Spring; sister, Mary "Bee Bee" Halbrooks of Odessa; and nine grandchildren. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Justine Robin ODESSA — Justine Robin, 86, of Kermit passed away Friday, May 19, 2000, at her daughter’s home in Odessa. She was born May 6, 1916, in Mason City, Neb. She was a resident of Kermit for 30 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Kermit American Legion Post No. 339 Ladies Auxiliary. She was married to Roy Robin, who preceded her in death Jan. 26, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her son, Bernard Charles. She is survived by her son, Lyle Charles of Kermit; daughter, Karen Phillips of Odessa; stepsons, Verne "Rob" Robin of Big Spring, Marshall Robin of Powell, Wyo., and Mike Robin of Basin, Wyo.; sister, Amber Foster of Kearney, Neb.; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Home Hospice of Odessa; her nurse, Maurcen Mize; and Pastor Jimmy Braswell. Arrangements under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Roger Allen Leeper, 46, of Odessa died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. Services will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Rowe officiating. He was born Dec. 20, 1953, in Findlay, Ohio. He married Jean Marie Burkhalter May 20, 1992, in Odessa. Mr. Leeper was a longtime resident of Odessa. He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was preceded in death by his father, Everett Leeper. Survivors include his wife, Jay Leeper of Odessa; son, Jeremy Leeper of Fort Wroth; daughter, Dawn Leeper of Fort Worth; mother, Shirley Studdard and stepfather, James Studdard, of Ashland, Ala.; brother, Bud Leeper of Ohio; stepbrothers, Jim Studdard of Ashland and Charles Studdard of La Port; sisters, Connie Thomas of Ashland and Diane Ryan of Cragford, Ala.; stepsisters, Sharon Studdard and Michelle Studdard, both of Alabama; and one grandchild. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Tennie Maxey, 82, of Odessa passed away Friday, May 19, 2000, at her home. Tennie was born to Charlie and Nora Blankenship on March 23, 1918, in Ladonia, Fannin County. She married Roy Maxey Nov. 26, 1933, in Electra, Texas. He preceded her in death, as did her parents. She was also preceded in death by her son, Royce Maxey; a granddaughter, Debbie Bates Hefner; four sisters, Margie Shook, Ruby Presley, Frances Nelson, and Grace Holcomb; and one brother, C. J. "Bud" Blankenship. Tennie grew up in Burkburnett and Electra but lived most of her adult life in Odessa. She was Baptist and a member of Westwood Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Mathers and husband, Joe; her daughter-in-law, Trudy Maxey; grandsons, Weslie Maxey, Mike Bates and wife, Joni; great-granddaughter, Tisha Bates, all of Odessa; great-grandsons, Jason Hefner and wife, Sarita, of Sweetwater, Jerod Hefner of Denton; three great-great-granddaughters, Belinda Hefner, Kelsee Hefner, and Brooke Hefner; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2000, in the Garden of Prayer at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart or Lung Association. Services are in the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Ray V. Myers was born April 14, 1932, in Algerita, Texas, to Tom Jefferson and EnoIa Swells Myers. He was reared in Richland Springs, moving to Odessa in the 1950‘s. Ray worked as a firefighter for 28 years, retiring in April of 1981. They moved to Rochelle, where they lived for 10 years prior to traveling in their RV. Ray was a member of Parker and Main Church of Christ and Fire Fighters Association. Ray died in Gunnison, Colo., on Thursday, May 18, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Billie Myers of Rochelle; his daughters, Beverly Akin of Andrews and Gwendolyn Grigsby of Midland; his stepson, Dennis Morrison of Carlsbad, N.M.; his brothers, Wayne Myers of Rochelle and Johnny Myers of Brownwood; his sisters, Lucille Bourke and Jean Teel, both of Midland; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2000, at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland. Funeral services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa with Reverend Pete Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Robert Brown, Richard Elkins, Gale Courtney, Clarence Mayo, Duane Humble and Donald Ottinger. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Graveside services for James L. Null, 74, of Odessa will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Mr. Null died Friday, May 19, 2000, at his residence. He was born June 12, 1925, in Electra. He was a beloved husband and father and had lived in Odessa since 1939. He retired as a captain from the Odessa Fire Department in 1982 after 31½ years of service. Mr. Null was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Willie Lee Null; a sister, Edwina Null Stanley; and a brother, Richard D. Null. He is survived by his wife, Jerry Null of Odessa; sons, James Michael Null and wife, H.K., of Odessa and David Alan Null and wife, Celena, of La Porte; a sister, Marcee Renfro of Ventura, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His family would like to express its utmost gratitude to Home Hospice and to a dear friend, Victoria Reynolds for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Home Hospice.
