God graced them with a bouncing bundle of joy! She had dark, curly locks and bright, blue eyes. As a child, she loved to pick flowers and wear them over her ears. Loving flowers even in adult life, she always wore clothes with flowers on them. She brought so much joy and meaning to life. When Brenda was eight years old, the family moved from Snyder to South Louisiana where she grew up. She made Jesus her Lord and Savior when she was 12 years old, becoming a member of the Church of Christ. She was involved in the Girl Scouts for 19 years, attended college at Harding Christian University in Searcy, Ark., and completed her bachelor of science degree in business administration at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La. She then moved to Thousand Oaks, Calif., where she worked as a bookkeeper for the next 14 years. Brenda was very creative, and she especially loved quilting, saying that each quilt was a unique expression of someones life. She loved the stories that each quilt revealed. She frequently attended regional and international quilt shows and was a proud member of the American Quilters Society. Brenda was responsible in every aspect of her life. She chose commitment over convenience and she always kept her promises. Her responsibilities and strong work ethic were only superceded by her loyalty. She was a kind, gentle, upright and truthful individual, always rising above lifes hardships with a quiet inner strength and faith in her Lord. Even in the pain and sickness which preceded her death, she never once complained. She was an encourager and often exhibited unimaginable patience, quietly and steadily showing strength. She seldom despaired and never gave up. She fought without flurry and with a strong heart...and she quietly won. Brenda is survived by her parents, Billy W. and Norma Prokish Prather of Odessa; her sister, Cathy Knauss of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; her brother, Michael Prather of San Diego, Calif.; three nieces, Betsy and Hannah Knauss and Michelle Prather; and two nephews, Casey Knauss and Jonathan Prather. Brenda died peacefully Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, Calif. We commend her into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus. In this, we find comfort from our sorrow. Brenda, you were a fine Christian example to us all. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with minister Charles Jones of Parkview Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to Odessa Christian School, 2000 Doran, Odessa, TX 79761. _________________________________________________________________ Copyright © 2000 Odessa American. All rights reserved.
