June 05, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Merle Bryan Holbert ODESSA Merle Bryan Holbert, after a courageous battle with cancer, passed away peacefully Friday, June 2, 2000, in her home. Mrs. Holbert, 76, was born May 23, 1924, in Bairdstown. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Gray Bryan; father, John R. Bryan; and a brother, Charles W. Bryan. Mrs. Holbert was wed to Clarence H. Holbert on Oct. 20, 1946, in Sweetwater. The couple moved to Odessa in 1951. Mrs. Holbert had a strong faith in God and church. She was a longtime member of Highland Methodist Church and the Wesley Sunday School class. She is survived by her husband, C.W. Holbert of Odessa; two daughters, Paula Marshall-Grey of Lubbock and Belynda Curnutt and her husband, Howard, of Odessa; one sister, Bobbye Petty of Odessa; two brothers, Maurice Bryan of Paris, Ill., and Donald Bryan of Brea, Calif.; one grandson, Judson P. Spinks of Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2000, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with the Rev. David Ring officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Judson Spinks, Robert Knox, Vernon Haggard and Tito Sausedo. The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice House for indigent care.
