June 22, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ William W. Hollis ALBERQUERQUE, N.M. Canon William W. Hollis, 64, resident of Albuquerque, N.M., went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, June 19, 2000. Bill died after a short battle with cancer. Bill is survived by his wife, Chris; two children, Elizabeth Ann Hollis Scales and William Kirk Hollis and their spouses, Stephen G. Scales Jr. and Rebecca Vincent Hollis; four grandchildren, S.G. Scales, Samantha Scales, Shelby Hollis and Robyn Hollis; mother, Margaret Hollis; sister, Helen Cherry; brothers, Joe Hollis and Nell Hollis; and extended family and friends. Bill was born June 6, 1936, in Hollis, Okla. He received his college degrees at Cameron State Agricultural College and Oklahoma State University, obtaining a bachelors and masters in accounting. He served his country in the Army, following completion of college. His career included working at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., as a professor and assistant dean of faculty, as an executive for Great Western Land and Cattle Company and in several positions at Sandia National Laboratory. Bill and his wife, Chris, have been deeply involved in the Episcopal Church both in Durango, Colo., and Albuqu-erque, N.M. Upon his retirement from Sandia, he continued his commitment to Christ, serving as the bishops executive. In October 1998, he was appointed canon by the Right Rev. Dr. Bishop Terence Kelshaw and the Right Rev. Bishop Maurice Benitez. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cathedral Church of St. John, 318 Silver SW, Albuquerque, N.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Diocese of the Rio Grande, in memory of Canon Bill Hollis. _________________________________________________________________ Ruby Lee Davis ODESSA Ruby Lee Davis, 79, of McKinney died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at North Central Medical Center in McKinney. Services will be at 4 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2000, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Ernest Easley officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Sumrall, Miss. She married Thomas Davis in March 1938 in Sumrall, Miss. He preceded her in death in June 1975. She was also preceded in death by her sons, Sidney and Wayne Davis; two brothers; and one grandson. Mrs. Davis lived in Odessa from 1951 to 1988 and then moved to Mississippi and McKinney. She was a retired licensed vocational nurse and a member of First Baptist Church and the American Nurses Association. She loved taking care of her family. Survivors include her sons, Gene Davis of Austin and Jimmie Davis of Odessa; daughter, Pamela Ramirez of McKinney; brother, Evan Dickens of Oloh, Miss.; sisters, Alberta Dickens and Vivian Stamps, both of Odessa; four grandchildren, Courtney, Stephanie, Michael and Cathy; great-grandson, Brandon; four nieces, Sherry L. Spruill, Janet Truelock, Mary Grayson and Linda Dickens.
