June 28, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA Edward Rae "Bingo" Bustamante, 21, of Odessa passed away Sunday, June 25, 2000, in Odessa. He was born Dec. 29, 1978, in Odessa. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Carter officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Edward was a lifelong resident of Odessa. He was a fun-loving young man and enjoyed laughing and joking with his friends and family. He attended Odessa High School. He worked for Turner Industries at Ameripol Synpol. He is survived by his parents, Eduardo Bustamante and Carol A. Bernal Flores, both of Odessa; grandparents, Jose and Martha Bustamante and Cruz Jr. and Nena Bernal, all of Odessa and Betty Bernal of Andrews; sisters, Valerie Diaz, Nicole Lemons and Mercedes Bustamante, all of Odessa; and brother, Jericho Bustamante of Odessa. (www.wilsonfuneral.com) _________________________________________________________________ Linda Carol Bowers Cherry LONGVIEW Linda Carol Bowers Cherry left this earth for her heavenly journey Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at the age of 53 years, 11 months and 20 days. She came into this world in Seminole, July 10, 1946, the daughter of Allen and Beatrice Bowers of Odessa. She was a graduate of Odessa High School. She married Glen Cherry in Odessa on March 15, 1965. They celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this year. To that union was born four children, James, Michael, Angela and Judy, all of Kilgore. Linda was a very faithful member of Liberty City Assembly of God Church. For many years, she entertained residents at a local nursing home with music and friendship. She was a friend to everyone and had a great heart. She left behind two brothers and one sister, Harold Jennings of Escondido, Calif., Joe Bowers of Midland and Iva Smiley of Odessa. She also left behind four grandchildren. They are Jordan, Spencer, Levi and Hunter. Services were held Thursday, June 22, 2000, in the Liberty City Assembly of God Church with the Rev. James Shepherd and her brother the Rev. Joe Bowers officiating. Burial followed at Kilgore Memorial Gardens. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA Bonnie B. Lopez, 83, of Odessa died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Spoon officiating. Burial will be at Odessa Cemetery. She was born April 8, 1917, in Haskell County. She married Hilton J. Lopez June 30, 1944, in Del Rio. Mrs. Lopez moved to Odessa in 1945. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was loved by her family and all that knew her. Survivors include her husband, Hilton J. Lopez of Odessa; daughter, Scharolette Kornegay of New Orleans; three grandchildren, Kim Spoon, Stephanie Lassingne and Robbie Parks; and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA Sidney Clark "Red" Shaw, 94, of Odessa died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born March 13, 1906, in Kemp. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Bill Heggemeier officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Shaw was raised in Eustace, at the age of 15 he moved to New York City and worked for Western Union. He married Edna Roney Aug. 5, 1937, in New York. In 1942, he joined the Navy and served in World War II. After the war, he moved to Houston and worked at Eason Oil Company and later for Humble Oil Company. He later moved to Odessa with what is now Exxon as a communications specialist. He retired in 1967 and fully enjoyed his retirement, he loved to hunt and fish and was a good tennis player. He loved to have fun and had little tolerance for those who did not. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Della Shaw; brother, Truxton Shaw; and sisters, Mable Shaw and Thelma Akins. He is survived by brothers, W R. Shaw of Longview; B.K. Shaw of StilIwater, Okla., and Wayne Shaw of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. (www. wilsonfuneral.com). _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA Floy Oueida Starr of Canton, Texas, formerly of Odessa, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2000, in Garland. She was born Feb. 2, 1914, in Mineral Wells to David R. Davis and Susan M. Lane Davis. On Aug. 8, 1948, she married Notchey O. Starr, who preceded her in death Jan. 10, 1991. She was a graduate of Weatherford High School and received her bachelor of science from North Texas State Teachers College and a masters degree from Texas Tech University. She taught school for 38 years all over Texas including Ector High School and Odessa Junior College. She was a lifetime member of Order of Eastern Star Friendship chapter 1008 and Canton chapter 667. She was Grand Representative and Past Worthy Matron, and was a member and Past State President of Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary and the AARP. Mrs. Starr was known for her artwork. She was a wonderful Christian lady, wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to travel and had a friend in every city in the USA and elsewhere. She is survived by brother, Monte Ray Davis and his wife, Juanita; sons, Donald O. Starr and his wife, Sandra, and Michael P. Starr and his wife, Cathy; daughter, Janice L. Gordon and her husband, Ray; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2000, at Sherwood Baptist Church in Odessa with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Tom Hiser will officiate. She will lie in state from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors in Garland. Arrangements by Williams Funeral Directors. _________________________________________________________________ Mary Inez Steward ODESSA Mary Inez Steward, 86, was born June 30, 1913, and passed away Monday, June 26, 2000. She was a native of Texas, born and raised in Rockwood before moving to Odessa, where she lived for 36 years, retiring from Midland Memorial Hospital. She had resided in Alvin since 1993. She is survived by four children, Raymond Steward and wife, Louise, of Odessa, Jay Steward and wife, Chelly, of Odessa, Mickey Todd of Pearland and Deborah Harrington of Dallas. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Estaleen Steward of Mozelle; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Oakpark Funeral Home in Alvin and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2000, at Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.
