July 07, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA Jeremy Dustin Dunlap was born May 12, 1978, in Andrews to Dennis and Keverly Dunlap. He passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2000. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Griffin Jones of Temple Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Jeremy lived in Odessa all of his life. He attended Goliad and Dowling Elementary, Bonham Jr. High and Permian High School. He received his G.E.D. from Midland College. He was in Zenith and Honors classes all through his school years. He was active in choir at Bonham and participated in the Bonham Follies. He was a member of the Permian Debate Team. He is survived by his parents, Dennis and Keverly Dunlap of Odessa; his brother, Shelby Dunlap of Odessa; grandparents, J.B. and Flossie Dunlap, Eddie and Fredda Williams and Roger Graves; great-grandmother, June Surratt; uncles and aunts, Garry and Mary Dunlap and their daughter, Mallory, Tony and Marley Williams and their son, Daven, Melanie Williams; and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that he loved very much. He loved life and lived it to the fullest, he never met a stranger. The Dunlap family wishes to say thank you to all of our friends and family for their love and support. Services are under the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Troy Jordan ROBERT LEE Troy Jordan was born Sept. 11, 1924, in Duke, Okla., and started playing musical instruments at 8 years of age. He and his brother, Lloyd, played for dances in the Muleshoe area and played with John Wills (father of Bob Wills), Billy Jack and Luke Wills on a radio station in Clovis, N.M., every Saturday morning in the mid-1930s. He served in the United States Army during World War II and upon discharge formed his own band, The Cross B Boys, and played for such stars as Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis, when they came to the area. During the 1960s, he and his band played battle dances twice a month in Odessa with Ray Price, Willie Nelson, Jim Reeves, George Jones, Faron Young, Porter Wagoner and other well know personalities. Troy moved to Robert Lee in 1979 and played for three bands, including the Coke County Cavaliers and the Country Showmen, which plays for the Big Country Dance in Sweetwater at the Nolan County Coliseum the first Monday of each month. Troy was inducted into the "West Texas Music Association" Hall of Fame in 1998. On Feb. 7, 2000, the Nolan County Commissioners Court honored Troy by proclaiming that day Troy Jordan Day, in appreciation of his musical accomplishments and service to the community. He passed away July 3, 2000, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Robert Lee Baptist Church. Survivors include his son, Charlie Jordan of Houston; daughter, Joylyn Jordan of Midland; brothers, Pike Jordan of Farwell and Lloyd Jordan of Odessa; sisters, Estalee Evangelista and Noama Mealor, both of Simi Valley, Calif.; and three grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ Katherine Jean Johnson Zak ODESSA Katherine Zak, age 51, of North Highlands, Calif., passed away Thursday, June 29, 2000, at her residence. She was born to Albert and Billie Johnson July 20, 1948, in San Angelo. She attended Odessa High School. She married Gary Zak Feb. 22, 1974 in Anchorage, Alaska. Katherine worked as a bookkeeper for her and Garys business. She enjoyed crafts. She was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Davidson; a sister, Eunice Mobley; and her father, Albert Johnson. Survivors include her husband, Gary Zak of North Highlands, Calif.; daughters, Billie Shaeffer of Kenai, Alaska, Jamie Davidson of Rio Linda, Calif., Elizabeth Zak and Katrina Zak, both of North Highlands, Calif.; mother, Billie Johnson of Odessa; sisters, Joy Johnson of Odessa, Alberta and Frank Hodgson of Odessa and Gayle and Richard Guthrie of Kissimmee, Fla.; grandchildren, Chantel Shaeffer, Veronica Zak and Marissa Zak. _________________________________________________________________ Susan M. Wilson HOBBS, N.M. Susan M. Wilson, 20, of Hobbs, N.M., died Monday, July 3, 2000, in Seminole. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2000, at St. Pauls United Methodist Church with the Revs. Daniel Miller and David Matkins officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Central Standard Time at Tahoka Cemetery in Tahoka. She was born Nov. 20, 1979, in Odessa. She was a student at New Mexico Junior College and was a nursery worker at St. Pauls United Methodist Church. She was a staff member at Hobbs Teen Center. Survivors include her father, Andy T. Wilson of Flagstaff, Ariz.; mother and stepfather, Linda and Alan Reder of Hobbs, N.M.; brother, Rick Malta of Dallas; and grandparents, Van Greene of Lubbock and Joe and Marlene Edelen of Missouri City, Texas. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Pauls United Methodist Church of Hobbs.
