July 24, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Donald Russell Roach Donald Russell Roach passed away Saturday, July 22, 2000, at his home in Odessa. He was born Jan. 26, 1929, in Wink to Grandville D. and Leona Maxine Roach. He was a gunnery sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944 to 1947 and 1950 to 1968, serving in World War II in the Central and South Pacific. He also served in Korea from 1952 to 1953 and in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. In between the wars, he also served in Japan, Lebanon, Thailand, Alaska, Okinawa and the Philippines. Graveside services for Mr. Roach will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Survivors include his sons, Russell Roach of Odessa and Keith Roach of Corinth; daughter, Donna Meiz of Greenwood; brother, Bobby Roach of Odessa; sister, Arlene Baker of Odessa; nephew, Rory Roach and his wife, Cindy, of Odessa; niece, Jo Scott and her husband, Steve, of Odessa; great-niece and nephew, Jerrica and Kyle Roach of Odessa and six grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ Ruth C. Farris Ruth C. Farris, 80, of Longview, formerly of Odessa, died July 20, 2000, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. She was born September 3, 1919, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Jerry and Martha Campbell. Ruth moved to Longview in 1995, where she resided with her sister, Winifred Rutland. She was a licensed beautician and a licensed vocational nurse. She taught Sunday school and was a former president of the Ladies Auxiliary. Ruth wrote poetry and was an inspirational person. She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed greatly. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2000, at First United Pentecostal Church in Odessa, with speakers, including the Revs. J.T. Pugh and Terry Pugh, both of Odessa and A.D. Spears of Longview. Survivors include her daughter, Carol Ann Wilson of Odessa; one sister Winifred Campbell Rutland of White Oak; one grandson, Mark W. Wilson of Odessa; three granddaughters, Marcia Weddel of Longview; Elizabeth Parekh of Odessa; Laura Goodwin of the Dallas area; 11 great-grand children and one great-great grandson. Her husband, Mark D. Farris, a son, Jerry D. Farris, and her great-granddaughter, Rachel Wilson, preceded her in death. She leaves a host of Pentecostal brothers, sisters and friends.
