July 25, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Jose Albridez Herrera ODESSA Jose Albridez Herrera, 66, of Odessa, died Friday, July 21, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born March 19, 1934, in Sierra Blanca to Francisco and Rosa Herrera. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. His father, Francisco Herrera, and his brothers, Eloy, Juan and Paul Herrera preceded Mr. Herrera in death. Survivors include his wife, Elvia Vargas Herrera of Odessa; mother, Rosa A. Herrera of Odessa; son, Rudy Herrera of Odessa; stepsons, Frank Vega Jr. of Dallas, Raymond Vega of Pecos and Lee Vega of Odessa; daughters, Sonia Williams and Elena Herrera, both of Odessa, and Alvessa Lyles of Midland; stepdaughters, Margie Navarette of Midland, Susan Lujan and Elaine Vega, both of Pecos, and Cecilia Guajardo; brothers, Manuel Herrera of Hobbs, N.M., Frank Herrera Jr. of Santa Rosa, Calif., Greg Herrera and Osbaldo Herrera, both of Odessa, and Robert Herrera of Tulsa, Okla.; sisters, Gloria Carrasco and Celia Valdez, both of Odessa, and Carolina Ramos of Santa Rosa; and nine grandchildren. Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Evelyn Posey WOODROW Evelyn Haste Bowen Posey, 83, of Odessa, left this earth Saturday, July 22, 2000, to join her family and friends in heaven. Evelyn Haste was born January 12, 1917, in Mangum, Okla., to Allie Hines Haste and Laudell Haste. She graduated from Mangum High School in the 1930s. Evelyn came to Odessa in 1978 with her second husband, Louis Posey, and lived here until her death. Evelyn was an elegant, sweet lady with a heart of gold. She was always willing to do for you but did not want you to do for her. She will be missed by many. Evelyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Daily; her first husband, Patrick Bowen; her second husband, Louis Posey; and her fiance, Walter Rimes. She is survived by her sister, Katherine McMinn of Oklahoma City; nephew, Glenn McMinn of Phoenix; granddaughters, Jacqueline Loper and Shellie Nobert, both of McCloud, Okla.; a great-grandson and a great-granddaughter, both of McCloud; her Odessa daughter, Jean Huckaby; her cats, Momma and Allie of the home; and a host of very special friends. Evelyn will lay in state until 10:30 a.m. today. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow with the Rev. Ronnie Newton officiating. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel. _________________________________________________________________ Lonnie Burleson ODESSA Lonnie Burleson, of Odessa, a retired construction foreman for RefChem for over 30 years, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. Mr. Burleson was born Aug. 29, 1916, in Oplin. In Feb. 1940, he joined the Army where he quickly became a Staff Sergeant Transportation Chief in charge of the trucks and vehicles that transported supplies and equipment to the front lines of Germany during World War II. He was a longtime Odessa resident, living here for over 50 years. He married Margie Robberson in May 1970. He was well known for his friendliness and his unique sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Marie Burleson of Odessa; his stepson, Rick Robberson of Dallas; two stepgrandchildren, Dane and Wade Robberson of Midlothian; and his sister, Dorothy Moates of Kingsland. Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Cecil Maxey of University Heights Baptist Church officiating. Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Jewel Zeigler ODESSA Jewel Zeigler, 91, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2000, at her residence in Odessa. She was born Oct. 15, 1908, in Comanche County. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She married Thomas H. Zeigler in December 1935 in Ranger. She and her new husband moved to Odessa in December of 1935 from Ranger. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Odessa for many years, and she loved to work in the Sunday School department. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Zeigler in 1992. She is survived by her son, Thomas R. Zeigler of Staunton, Va.; three grandchildren, David Zeigler of Lubbock, Mary Zeigler of League City and Catherine Boschert of Austin; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Lona Sapp of Odessa; and a brother, Jim White of Odessa. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
