July 29, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Jo Brown ODESSA Josephine Ethel Brown was born Sept. 26, 1918, in Zwolle, La., to Clarence and Macadia Parrie. She passed away at her residence July 27, 2000. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Sunset Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Jo married Tom Brown in Lafayette, La., June 2, 1940. They moved to Odessa over 50 years ago. They enjoyed fishing and bowling together. She worked over 13 years for Kmart and retired in 1985. Her husband, parents and one brother, Clarence Parrie, Jr., preceded her in death. Survivors include her son, Dale Brown of Odessa; a daughter, Geneva J. McAfee of Monahans; a brother, Sam Parrie of Zwolle; four sisters, Louise Wilkerson, Francis Downs and Pauline Parrie, all of Zwolle, and Bessie Armstrong of Kenner, La.; four grandchildren, Josephine Inez Peters of Stephenville, Michael Brown of Odessa, John Shelton McAfee of Dayton, Ohio, and Julius Jacob McAfee of Desdemona; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Mariellen Dickerson Peyton PECOS Mariellen Dickerson Peyton was born Nov. 9, 1911, in Cleburne. She passed away Friday, July 28, 2000, at the age of 88 in Granbury. She was married to Daniel Hendricks Peyton, who preceded her in death. Mary spent her childhood in Cleburne and, after her marriage to Dan in 1940, she moved to Pecos. After receiving a bachelor of arts degree from Texas State College for Women, Mary pioneered her love of art into a lifelong career as a self-taught architectural and interior designer. She is survived by daughters Susan Peyton Silliman, Ellen Peyton Weinacht and Lisa Peyton Fielder; sisters, Jessie Mae (Ted) Cousins and Rebecca Nell Dickerson; grandchildren, Lou Ellen Lewis Weinacht, Jennifer Weinacht Willigrod, Daniel Peyton Fielder and Timothy Lambert Fielder; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2000, at the First Christian Church in Pecos with the Rev. Clark Ford officiating. They were born July 27 in Odessa. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bob Todd officiating. They were preceded in death by their grandfather, Michael Sutphin Sr. Survivors: Parents; grandparents, Lynna and Earl Waterbury of Odessa, Corkey Ryan of Odessa and Brenda Sutphin of Carlsbad; uncles, Jessie Taylor and fiancée Amber Higginbotham of Midland, Michael Ryan and wife Amanda of Odessa and Michael Sutphin of Carlsbad; aunts, Misti Ryan and Angela Burlingame and husband Mike, all of Odessa; cousins, Matthew and Zachery Burlingame, Amber Van Zant, Alex Wilkerson, Damian Weaver and Kayla Roberson, all of Odessa, Brittany Taylor and Taci Higginbotham of Midland, and Summer and Sunnie Sutphin of Carlsbad. "Hoss" Wells, 65, passed away Friday, July 28, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital after a long courageous fight with diabetes and heart disease. He was born in Durant, Okla., Jan. 31, 1935, to Lavonia and H.D. Wells. He was owner of Wells Radio Service from 1959 to 1984. Herman retired from First State Bank of Odessa in 1997. Herman is survived by his wife, Lou, and his son, H.M. Wells of Odessa; sister, Bernice Copeland of Dallas; nieces Terri Enloe of Marble Falls and Cathy Kniering of Frisco. Herman was an avid woodworker and loved to putter in his shop. Hermans request was that there be no services and that his body be donated to Medical Science in hope of helping someone else. The family requests memorials for Herman be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. The family wants to express their thanks to Dr. Larry Oliver, Dr. Amaram and Dr. Sanford for their efforts to give Herman the best quality of life possible. We will miss you, Hoss.
