Franklin Sr., having lived a full and productive life, passed away peacefully late Aug. 11 or early Aug. 12 of this first year of our new century. It was his wish that he might never be a burden on his family and his wish was granted. He had lived by himself since 1981 at Lake Buchanan, about 13 miles from Llano, after the passing of his beloved wife, Mary. Roy was well known in the oilfields of the Permian Basin in his earlier years, having worked as a roughneck, progressing to driller, then to tool pusher and then to drilling superintendent. Later in life, he began Permian Casing Crews and, later, Roys Tong Rentals, both drilling-related service companies. He was a man of integrity, determined, organized, and was a great teacher of those who worked for and with him. He was justifiably proud that he took care of his job and his family to the very best of his ability. He leaves behind some sparkling memories for all whom new him. His surviving family includes his four children, Roy L. (Jerb) Franklin, Jr., Jean Hall, Jan Marcum and John Franklin. Roy was blessed with seven grandsons and two granddaughters. The grandsons and granddaughters from oldest to youngest are Kathy Eggar, Roy L. (Buddy) Franklin III, Matt Franklin, Craig Franklin, Bryan Hall, Jason Marcum, Cory Hall, Colin Marcum and Rainy Franklin Smith. He also had nine great-grandchildren. Not only was Roy loved by his children and grandchildren, but also by his sons-in-law and daughters-in-law as well as by many other cherished lifelong friends. His memory will not soon fade, living in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with Jeff Trahan officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
