September 29, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA William Melvin "Poppa" Arnold, 56, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Aug. 21, 1944, in Ranger to Lester and Alta Arnold. On Feb. 14, 1963, Melvin married Carol Keefer in Monahans. Later in 1968 he and Carol decided to lift their roots and move to Odessa. While living in Odessa, Mr. Arnold worked as a shop manager for Stoehr Wire Rope. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and lived for fishing. Melvin enjoyed playing darts and billiards. He also liked to bowl. Graveside services for Mr. Arnold are scheduled for 6 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bill Pollard officiating. Melvin was preceded in death by his son, Dale Arnold, who passed away February 4, 1974, and also by his sister Sue Brown. Survivors include his wife Carol Arnold of Odessa; sons, David Arnold and wife Penny, Scott Arnold and wife Tina and Eric Arnold and wife Amy, all of Odessa; brother, Bearl Arnold and wife Nelda of Eastland; sisters, Irene Gonzalez and husband Tom of Columbus and Lou Barker of Gainesville; grandchildren, Elizabeth Arnold, Michael Arnold, Brandon Arnold, Austin Arnold, Chelsea Crumpley, Hollie Arnold, Robert Arnold, Chase Floyd, Morgan Crumpley and Kristopher Arnold. Services are under the professional care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA Memorial services for Charley Ray Jouett, 58, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Jouett was born Dec. 25, 1941, in Memphis, Texas, to Edgar Ivy and Margarett Irene Jouett. He died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. Charley honored his country by serving in the special forces during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Loyal Order of Moose. He was in the construction business most of his adult life and built churches, restaurants, motels and apartments in New Mexico, Illinois, Indiana, Georgia, Florida, California, Okla-homa and Texas, including the Midland-Odessa area. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Smith Jouett of Odessa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Odessa College Scholarship Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
