November 22, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ MIDLAND Prebble H. "Jiggs" Storie passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in Stanton. She was born to pioneer residents of Fort Stockton, Jonana and Hollis Randolph Brannon, Oct. 3, 1916, the second of four daughters. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. today, Nov. 22, 2000, at the Manor Park Chapel with Dr. Philip McLarty and her nephew, David Rhoades, presiding. Burial will be at 3 p.m. today at East Hill Cemetery in Fort Stockton. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home in Midland. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Odessa until 1988 when she moved to the Retirement Center. Her family requests, in lieu of flowers, that contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Odessa. Mrs. Storie was devoted to her son and to her family. She loved West Texas, particularly Fort Stockton, and its history, where she spent her childhood and high school days, graduating in 1934. These were depression years and she was unable to attend college so she began a long work career. Among other positions, she was employed at Fred Ellyson Abstract Company, was secretary to the Fort Stockton Superintendent of Schools, and worked in the accounting department of the Primary Air Base. During the war years, she served as city secretary and tax assessor of Fort Stockton for two terms. When she moved to Odessa in 1946, she worked for Childers Accounting Firms. Then, in 1955, she took the position as secretary to the first president of Odessa College, Dr. Murry H. Fly. After his death, she was the secretary to the second president, Dr. Jack Rodgers. She retired in 1976, having been employed at Odessa College for 22 years. Mrs. Stories many interests after retirement were crochet, bridge, oil painting and cooking. She was treasurer of Presbyterian Women for four years. Preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Mrs. Leona "Babe" Rhoades of Odessa and Mrs. Geraldine "Dean" Dickson of McCamey. Survivors are her son, John Randolph Storie, a sister, Mrs. LaNell Patterson of San Antonio, and a number of nieces and nephews. _________________________________________________________________ Royce Nevelle Everett ODESSA Services for Royce Nevelle Everett, 76, of Odessa are scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord with the Rev. Preston Weatherly officiating. Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Miss Everett died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at her residence. She was born Sept. 10, 1924, in Madill, Okla. Miss Everett was involved with the Special Olympics for 20 years. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord. Survivors include her sisters, Norma Duff and Kathryn Young, both of Odessa; nephews, Bill Duff, Douglas Duff and Jay Young, all of Odessa; nieces, Debbie Masters of Carlsbad, N.M., and Katy Graves of Odessa; and many great-nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials to the Special Olympics. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Ethel L. Dink Johnson AUSTIN Ethel L. "Dink" Johnson, age 94, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000. She was born Feb. 26, 1906, and was the last surviving child of pioneer rancher William Henry Johnson and Annie Phillips Johnson, who settled in Bee Cave Area in the 1860s. She has been in good health up until May of this year when she had her first fall due to one of many strokes. She was a real trooper, very independent and strong willed, but young at heart. Ethel "Dink" worked with her sister, Mary Shoto as a switchboard operator for Mr. Louis Novie at Interstate Theaters here in Austin. She began her hotel career on University of Texas Campus with the Student A-Bar Hotel, which she operated for Dr. Gordon Fulcher. Dr. Fulcher then moved her to Odessa to open and operate the Sand and Sage Hotel. Later she did the same for Odessas own legend, Mr. Pinkie Roden, with the Inn of the Golden West where she retired in 1978. She gave up her world in Odessa in 1991 after 50 years to return to Austin, to live and be a caregiver to her younger sister, Mary Shoto. She was preceded in death by her seven brothers and sisters, James A. "Zack" Johnson, Wiley Johnson, Rufus Johnson, Maebelle Johnson Tucker, Tommy Johnson, Gertrude "Trudy" Johnson Anderson and Mary Irene Johnson Murchison Shoto. She is survived by her devoted nephew, Jack Norris Anderson Jr. and wife Johnice Anderson of Lakeway; caring niece, Ruth Bray and husband James Bray of Houston; special cousin, Alvin "Big Boy" Johnson of Matagorda; best friend and devoted neighbor, Doris Walden of Odessa; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family she trusted and loved will miss her. The family received friends Sunday at Harrell Funeral Home. Graveside services were held Monday at Fitzhugh Cemetery with Reverend Don Duval officiating.
