November 28, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA Clara Saucedo Bayless, 76, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at a local nursing home. Mrs. Bayless was born Sept. 7, 1924, in Lockhart. She had been a resident of San Angelo and of Odessa for many years and worked as a beautician. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Consuello Saucedo, and her brothers, Antonio and Manuel Saucedo. She is survived by two sons, Charles Bayless of Midland and Chris Bayless of Odessa; a daughter, Brenda Bayless Stewart of San Angelo; a sister, Gloria Saucedo Campos of Visalia, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at St. Marys Catholic Church with Revs. Francis Frey and Matthew Chackalackal officiating. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff of Deerings Nursing Home for their care. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA Bessie Kathrine Yancy, 66, of Odessa, beloved mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at her home. She was born Dec. 4, 1933, in Del Rio and was a longtime resident of Odessa. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Lane of Odessa; a son, Steve Reed of Arlington; a granddaughter, Chance Passmore of Odessa; a grandson, Steve Lane of Odessa; and a great-grandson, Dustin Passmore of Odessa. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Latter Rain Worship Center located at 305 E. 19th St. in Odessa with Rev. Craig DeArmond officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are with Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. (www.wilsonfuneral.com) _________________________________________________________________ SAN ANTONIO Jose "Joe" M. Alvarado, born Aug. 22, 1911, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at the age of 89 in San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cordelia Huitt Alvarado and his parents, Diego G. Alvarado and Guadalupe Salazar Alvarado. Joe grew up in Odessa during the depression years. Consequently, he attended school only through the sixth grade. He joined the CCC and later enlisted in the military and served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II in the Pacific Theatre and was a member of the 528th Bomb Squardon. Joe and his brother, Gregorio Alvarado, also a WWII veteran, upon their return to civilian life, became owners of one of the first Mexican food restaurants in Odessa. A few years later, after Gregorio died, Joe and Cordelia retired and moved to Altus, Okla. Following her death in 1988, Joe moved to San Antonio to be near his sisters. Joe is survived by his sisters, Mrs. Antonia A. Roberts of Odessa, Maria D. and Nicolasa Alvarado of San Antonio. His other survivors are his nephews, Christino Alvarado of Dallas, Jesse Alvarado and his wife, Naomi, Lewis Fernandez of Odessa, Felix Fernandez and his wife, Betty, of Odessa; his niece, Lilia F. Howard and her husband, Cliff, of Big Spring, Olivia Fernandez of Big Spring, Elia Warren of San Antonio, Olivia Alvarado de Torres and her husband, Francisco Torres of Mexico City, Linda Eagleton and her husband, Phil of Dallas, Guadalupe Alvarado of Midland. Joe is also survived by many nephews and nieces. Funeral services and interment will be in Altus, Okla. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 28, 2000, in the Sanctuary of the Lowell Tims Funeral Home in Altus, Oklahoma. Burial services will follow.
