December 06, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA Thelma "Nonnie" Shepperd went to be with the Lord she trusted and loved so dearly Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in Odessa, where she had lived for over 50 years. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 6, 2000, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel. She was born Aug. 30, 1919, to Jess and Mary Cunningham Wheat in Eastland County and was married to Frank R. Shepperd from April 21, 1939, until his death in 1995. Also preceding her in death were her parents, her daughter, Barbara Shepperd Drennan and her brothers, Charles, Royce, Dale and Finis Wheat. She is survived by her son, Darrell Shepperd of Magnolia; her daughter and son-in-law, Vickey and Manning Banks of Midland; her sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Jack Herrington of Salado; her brother and sister-in-law, John and Nell Wheat of Grand Saline; her brother, Lee Wheat of Ranger; and several precious and beloved sisters-in-law. Nonnies grandchildren are Bethany and Dan LeRoy of Midland, Stephany and Jay Gaines of Lubbock, TyAnna Savell and Karen Drennan of Weir and Richard Drennan of Humble. The greatest joy in Nonnies life was sharing stories of the three "smartest great-grandchildren in the world," Camron Savell, Madison LeRoy and Parker LeRoy. She will also live in the heart of many special and cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.For 18 years, she managed a substation for Troy Laundry and Cleaners, which later became the Odessa Laundry and Cleaners. Through the years, many benefited from her generosity as she opened her home to those in need. Nonnie had an iron will and a heart of gold, and she leaves a heritage of love, laughter and music. Her family thanks all of those who enriched her life and gave comfort and support during her illness and passing. May God bless each of you. He was born April 4, 1902, in Italy, Texas. He married Bernice Irene Slaton March 9, 1924, in Oklahoma. She preceded him in death Jan. 18, 1999. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Mr. Mathers was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Ponca City, Okla., and moved to Odessa in 1993 from El Paso. He was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and had been employed by Continental Oil for 43 years before his retirement in 1967. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph R. and Glenda Mathers of Odessa; daughter and son-in-law, Ruthanne M. and Dick Woodward of San Carlos, Mexico; grandchildren, Katherine Massa, Robert Myrick, Deborah Hazelwood and Diane Latimer; great-grandchildren, Peyton Thomas and Mikayla Massa, Anne and Brian Kelley, Amy and Ashley Latimer and Austin Myrick.
