December 22, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA James "Jim" Earl Blakely, age 69, joined his mother, father and son in heaven Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 22, 2000, at St. Johns Episcopal Church with the Rev. Laura Deaderick officiating. Military graveside services will immediately follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Jim was born July 25, 1931, to Era Mae and Aristotle Blakely in Collinsville, Texas. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1949. As a staff sergeant, Jim fought in the Korean War and received a Purple Heart, the Letter of Commendation and many other honors. He married Caryl Avis Aug. 20, 1952, in Irving, Texas. After his Honorary discharge from the Marines in 1959, he and Caryl moved to Odessa. He founded Blakely Construc-tion Co. Inc. in 1960 and retired in 1984. Jim founded Blakely RV Complex Inc. in 1990. He was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church. He was past president and an active member in the WesTex Chapter of Family Motor Coach Association, a member of American Legion, past president of Odessa High School Booster Club and a member of many other clubs and organizations. His death was preceded by his mother and father and a son, Brian Blakely in 1987. He is survived by his wife, Caryl; daughters, Paula Blakely and Paulla Shires of Oklahoma; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Carrie Blakely of Odessa; grandchildren, Katie, Kelli, Brittney and Bailie, all of Odessa; a brother and wife, Bill and Nancy Blakely of Granbury; sisters, Eretta McFarland of Midland, Sammie Sue Crockett of San Benito, Marie and Joe Phillips of Gainesville; and many nieces and nephews who will remember him as "Uncle JJ." Jim will be remembered for many things, especially for his kindness, generosity and unprejudiced acceptance of everyone who crossed his path. Jim loved his RV and traveling with the WesTex gang. But mostly, Jim or better known as "Paw Paw" will be remembered for his love of family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA Marvin Gary Lewis, 74, of Odessa died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at his residence. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. He was born Jan. 22, 1926, in Grand Saline and came to Odessa in 1956 from Grand Saline. He served in the Army in World War II and the Korean War. He was owner and operator of a welding business. He was Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Kay Lewis in 1986; brothers, Rathford Lewis and Randolph Lewis; and sisters, Vanetta Parks and Laverne Layton. Survivors include his son, David Lewis of Odessa; brothers, R.P. Lewis of Odessa, Terriss Lewis, Ferriss Lewis and Gordon Lewis, all of Grand Saline, and Gerald Lewis of Grand Prairie; sister, Mary Stack of South Carolina; and grandchildren, Nicki of San Marcos, Colter and Dusty, both of Odessa. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA Raul Lujan, 78, of Odessa died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Deerings Nursing Home. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Rev. Fidelo Lugo officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Martinez Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel. He was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Shafter to Amanda Garcia and Manuel Lujan, both deceased. He married Cruz Flores March 9, 1942. He was a retired foreman for Holloman Construction Co., working 20 years for the company. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Cruz Lujan of Odessa; daughters, Norma Lujan, Ofelia Barrientes, Rosa Hernandez, Patsy Trejo and Bertha Lujan, all of Odessa, and Gloria Cruz of Corpus Christi; sons, Elmer Lujan of El Paso, Raul F. Lujan Jr. of Houston, Oscar F. Lujan of Odessa and Fernando Lujan of Monahans; sisters, Manuelita Sloan of Carlsbad, N.M., and Elvira Uranga of Abilene; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ Alta Mae Dewees ODESSA Alta Mae Dewees went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, while surrounded by her loving family at her daughter Sheilas home. Alta Mae was born Nov. 19, 1926, in Paintrock to Clyde and Alda Robbins. Graveside services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Alta came to Odessa in 1967. She was a member of the VFW Womens Auxiliary and the Rebeccas. She enjoyed sewing and crafts. She was a Baptist. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her daughters, Sheila McCasland and her husband Johnny of Midland, Debbie Allmon and her husband DeWayne of Midland and Colleen Brakeville and her husband Kenneth R. Brakeville of Odessa; sister, Florene Gurley of Ballinger; grandchildren, Robby McCasland, Ricky McCasland and his wife Jamie, Shelly Adcock and her husband John, Eric, Chris and Davy Allmon and Casey Boswell and her husband Michael; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to say a special thanks to the people at Home Hospice of Midland, especially her aides, Tammy Mermis and Sandra Saucedo.
