January 10, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ [INLINE] Ella Mae Cooper ODESSA Ella Mae Mayes Cooper, 68, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at her home after a lengthy illness. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Johnny Thomason will be officiating. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was born March 24, 1932, in Berclair. She came to Odessa in 1937, where she attended school. She worked as a seamstress in the dry cleaning industry. She married Bill Cooper in 1967 in Monterrey, Mexico. He preceded her in death in 1991. She and Bill moved to Fort Worth in 1967, where she worked for Glastron Boats as head seamstress. They retired to Odessa in 1988. Much of their time was spent traveling throughout the United States visiting family and friends. Ella was a great fan of country swing music. She was the biggest fan of her husband, who was a bandleader. Her time was spent crocheting afghans for family members, and during her recent stay at Medical Center Hospital she gave many crocheted gifts to her nurses. Ella will be missed by her loved ones and those who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was wonderful loving mother who knew her children and friends loved her. She is with the angels now and our hearts are empty. We will see her again one day. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Johnson of Odessa; a son, Richard Medlin of Fallon, Nev.; two stepdaughters, Charolette Cooper Behrendt of Odessa and Cathy Cooper Foster of Burleson; a stepson, William Thomas Cooper Jr. of Ruidoso, N.M.; grandchildren, Gregg Behrendt of Austin, Brad Behrendt of Odessa, Rachel Behrendt of Midland, Josh Cooper of Dallas, Jacob Cooper of Ruidoso, Cynthia Foster of Denton, and Chad and David Foster of Burleson; great-granddaughters, Kali Behrendt of Odessa and Madeleine Behrendt of Austin; an aunt, Linda Dennis of Odessa; and nephews, Sam Dennis and wife Mary of Odessa and Kenny Williamson and wife Gail of Lindale.
