January 17, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ [INLINE] Barbara Colborn ODESSA Barbara Colborn, 68, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at her daughters home in Alvin. She was born Sept. 9, 1932, in Brownwood. She married Alfred Eugene Colborn on April 8, 1951, in Houston. He preceded her in death in August 1996. She attended College of the Southwest in Hobbs, N.M., and Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, N.M. She was a retired school teacher in Eunice, N.M. She was a member and head of multiple ministries at Odessa Christian Faith Center. The Lord filled Barbaras life, enabling her to bless others in all areas of their lives. Her favorite ministry was cooking and canning. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Laura Anderson; husband, Gene Colborn; and brother, Richard Anderson. Survivors are her son, Rance Colborn and wife Kim of Eunice; daughters, Deaion Fisher and husband Rex of Alvin and Caren Colborn of Midland; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Odessa Christian Faith Center, 8860 Andrews Hwy., with the Rev. Don Caywood officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Odessa Christian Faith Center Youth Building Project. Ruth Lynn, age 88, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Crestpark Nursing Home in Helena, Ark. She was born July 23, 1912, in Rosebud, Ark., to the late Robert and Eliza Kelley. Mrs. Lynn was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Franklin Lynn Sr. and a son, Allen Thomas "Bunkie" Lynn. She is survived by two sons, Harry F. Lynn Jr. of Beebe, Ark., and Robert Lynn and wife Donna of Richmond, Va.; three daughters, Velma Lynn Lucy and husband Ben of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Sue Lynn Sellers and husband L.P. of Helena and Edna Maxine Lynn Pedicord of Kermit; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Mrs. Bonnie Coco. She was a homemaker, seamstress and a faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church in Odessa. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena by Pastor Steve Burton. Spiher, beloved father and grandfather, passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Jan. 14, 1943, in Colorado Springs, Colo. He moved to Odessa 21 years ago from Temple. He graduated from Pepperdine University. He was an avid sportsman. He was a pro pitcher for the San Francisco Giants from 1962 to 1964. He had been active with youth programs and had coached little league baseball. He married Mary Alford on Sept. 19, 1980, in Odessa. He was a member of Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland. He worked for 7-11 Corp. for 22 years. Survivors: His wife, Mary Alford Spiher of Odessa; sons, Jimmy Spiher and wife Stephanie of Clarksville, Tenn., and Scott Kraemer and wife Tricia of Odessa; daughters, Jeanne Kelley and husband Nathan of Waco, Jolie Gant of Waco and Nanette Dooley and husband Doug of Midland; brother, Richard Spiher of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters, Moonyeen Umstot and Joyce Galvin, both of Denver, Colo.; and eight grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 17, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Hilda Tinsley McKINNEY Mrs. Hilda Tinsley, age 78, of McKinney passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in McKinney. She was born Nov. 20, 1922, to Henry Davis and Edna L. (Hendricks) Buchanan. She married Harold H. Tinsley Sept. 21, 1939, in McKinney. She was a retired bookkeeper, former president of B&PW and a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in McKinney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold H. Tinsley; son, Harold D. Tinsley; and grandson, David Durrett. She is survived by her sons, Jim Tinsley of Cleburne, Eddie Tinsley of McKinney and the Rev. Larry Tinsley of Quinlan; daughters, Mary Winders of McKinney and Ruth Durrett of Odessa; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Davis of Terrell. Funeral services will be at noon Jan. 17, 2001, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with the Rev. Paul Gould officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the church of your choice. _________________________________________________________________ [INLINE] Viola Maddux Tripp ODESSA Viola Maddux Tripp, 84, of Odessa passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at her residence. Mrs. Tripp was born in LaPryor on March 7, 1916. She was the youngest of four children born to Jim and Anne Maddux. Viola attended public school in Uvalde and was awarded a scholarship to attend North Texas State Teachers College, now North Texas State University. However, she came to Odessa the summer after high school graduation to help Cora Mankins, her recently widowed older sister, with her two toddlers. Here she met the love of her life, a handsome young cowboy, Earl Tripp. They were married June 16, 1934, and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary before his death June 19, 1999. Over the years, Viola had been active in the First Christian Church, the Odessa Mothers Club and the Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bridge and spending time at their vacation home in Ruidoso. She was an adoring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved people and was always there for anyone who needed her. Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Tripp, and her grandson, Lloyd C. Lane. She is survived by her daughters, Judie Gibson and her husband, Fred, Earlene Smith and her husband, Bert, both of Odessa; three grandchildren, Dean Gibson and his wife, Rhonda, of Brady, Beth Ann Kelm and her husband, Chris, of San Antonio, and Tish Regalado of Odessa; five great-grandchildren, Sarah Beth Gibson, Zachary, Brittany and Cooper Kelm, and Marissa Regalado. During her last year, she was lovingly cared for by Rosa Garcia, Eloisa Contreras and Tina Sosa. Memorial services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at First Christian Church with Dr. David Mindel officiating. A family graveside will precede the memorial service. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Texas Scottish Rite Childrens Hospital in Dallas, the New Mexico Military Institute, c/o the Lloyd C. Lane Scholarship Fund or First Christian Church of Odessa.
