DeBerry MIDLAND Vernon Ianson DeBerry died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at a local nursing home. Mr. DeBerry was born Jan. 19, 1912, in Martha, Okla., to Edwin and Bertha DeBerry. He came to West Texas in 1940. On March 22, 1941, he and Ruth Widner were married in Stanton. He was of the Baptist faith. Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated De-Berrys Humble Service in Odessa. They moved to Midland in 1973. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Midland; his son, Tony DeBerry and his wife Pat of Midland; daughters, Kay DeBerry of Midland and Julia Shaver and her husband Billy Ed of China Spring; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A visitation was held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Ellis Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for 3 p.m. today, Jan. 20, 2001, at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Bob Porterfield officiating. Pallbearers will be Jim Fisher, Randy Page, Ian Page, Bill Leonard, Bart Welch and Ernie White. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Sowl DAVENPORT, Iowa Ethel E. Sowl, 65, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at River Park Healthcare Center in Rock Island, Ill. She was born Aug. 22, 1935, in Madison, Wis., to Willis Owens and Mattie Sutherland. She married LeRoy W. Sowl on June 25, 1960, in Decorah, Iowa. She was a homemaker and a member of Edwards Congregational Church and Church Women United. She held many positions in the Girl Scouts over the past 30 years in several states. She also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star in Crosby, N.D., and was a past president of the Alaska Diatetic Association, Quad City Audubon Society and Friends of the Wapsi and a delegate to the Mississippi Valley Girl Scout Council. She was known in the scouting community as "Evergreen" and was director of Camp Mitre Peak. She bowled in many leagues in many locations over many years. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at Edwards Congre-gational United Church of Christ, 3420 Jersey Ridge Road in Davenport, Iowa. There will be a committal service at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Ill. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Survivors include her husband, LeRoy Sowl of Bettendorf; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine F. and Joseph Thomas of Aurora, Colo.; daughters, Kristine M. Sowl of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Teresa I. Sowl of Eagle River, Alaska; son and daughter-in-law, Eric L. and Clara Sowl of Anchorage, Alaska; nine grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Lukas of Madison, Wis., and Audrey Kleppe of Barnevald, Wis.; and brothers, Jim Owens and Joe Owens, both of Barnevald. Memorials may be made to the Girl Scout Council of the Permian Basin. _________________________________________________________________ [INLINE] Dorthea DeeAnn Holman ODESSA Dorthea DeeAnn Holman, 34, of Goldsmith passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Aug. 15, 1966, in Long Beach, Calif. She moved to Odessa in 1980 from Douglas, Ariz. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Survivors are her husband, Dale Holman of Goldsmith; son, Christopher Holman of Odessa; mother, Patricia Ceal of Odessa; father, Doyce Fowler and wife Tricia of Gadsden, Ala.; stepfather, Ralph Kidd; grandmother, Ozell Robinson of Gadsden; grandparents, Louis and Mary Fowler of Gadsden; brother, Terry Doyce "J.R." Fowler and his wife Sherelana and their daughter Brittany of Gadsden; sisters, Dusty Ceal of Odessa and Penny Jennings of Oklahoma; and grandson, Timothy Dingus of Odessa. Morrow, 79, of Lubbock will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Southcrest Baptist Church with the Revs. David Wilson and Jerry Wilson officiating. Arrange-ments are under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors. He died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center. He was born Oct. 10, 1921, in Lelia Lake. He married Imogene Wisdom June 19, 1943, in Amarillo. He graduated from Clarendon High School in 1940 and Clarendon Junior College in 1942. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a desk manager for Southwestern Bell in Amarillo from 1946 until moving Odessa in 1958 and became the installation manager with Southwestern Bell. In 1972, he moved to Lubbock and retired from Southwestern Bell as a supervisor of various departments in 1986. He was past president of the Telephone Pioneers, the Lions Club and the Southcrest Baptist Church Deacons. He was a member of Southcrest Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Imogene Morrow of Lubbock; a daughter, Carol Bonnette of Lubbock; a son, Mike Morrow of Odessa; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Roy L. Morrow of Dallas and Ralph C. Morrow of Denver, Colo.
