January 21, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Rolana Gaylene Womack ODESSA Rolana Gaylene Womack, 46, of Odessa died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Dec. 11, 1954, in Sterling, Colo. Services will be announced at a later date. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Odessa Funeral Home. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Chapel. Rolana was a homemaker. She attended Odessa Christian Faith Center and was an active supporter of the pro-life movement. She was preceded in death by her father, R.D. "Bob" Jennings; and her brother, Bobby J. Jennings. She is survived by her husband, David Womack of Odessa; son, Duane Womack of Odessa; daughters, Terri Ruiz of Fort Worth and Becky Womack of Odessa; mother, Pauline Jennings of Duncan, Okla.; brother, Rodney Jennings of Odessa; sisters, Jan Otwell of Odessa and Quetsa Morgan of Quinlan; grandmother Pearl Duvall of Duncan, Okla.; and seven grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ Rose Catherine Graves ODESSA Rose Catherine Graves, 87, passed away Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Parks Methodist Retirement Center. She was born Oct. 23, 1913, in Verden, Okla. to Albert and Mary Smith. On Oct. 25, 1928, she and Paul H. Graves were married in San Angelo. Rose and their son lived in California while Paul was in the service during World War II. Rose worked in defense plants in California building fuel tanks for military aircraft. The family relocated to Odessa in August 1945. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Graves. Survivors include her son, Phil Graves and his wife, Rosemary; grandson, Mark Graves and his wife, Sandie; granddaughters, Rene Graves, and Kelly Phillips and her husband, Reggie; great-grandchildren, Jimmy and Alan Roach, Delaney and Henley Graves, Amanda and Hannah Phillips, all of Odessa; sister, Irene Gilliland of San Angelo; and half sister, Sylvia Thomas of Fair Oaks, Calif. Her great-grandchildren affectionately knew Rose as "Granny Bump." Graveside services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Leonard Cotton, pastor of Country Chapel, officiating. Hoffman AUSTIN Wanda A. Hoffman, 67, passed away Jan. 19, 2001, at her residence with her family at her side after a courageous and often humorous battle with breast cancer. She is survived by her beloved daughters, DeAun Hoffman and Sheri Hoffman, both of Austin; her mother, Auline Brasuel; sister, Peggy Street of Odessa; her treasured granddaughter, Molly Hoffman-Bricker; other relatives and numerous friends. Wanda will be missed by many who had their spirits kindled by her generosity, enthusiasm for life and an overwhelming concern for others. A celebration of Wandas life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001 at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes her life to be honored with contributions to Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Road, Suite 100, Austin, Texas 78759 or the Breast Cancer Research Center, 601 East 15th St., Austin, Texas 78701. _________________________________________________________________ Jose Ramon Juarez Jr. ODESSA Jose Ramon Juarez Jr., 20, of Odessa passed away Friday Jan. 19 at Medical Center Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born on April 15, 1980 in Pecos. Juarez came to Odessa in 1985 from Pecos. He was a 1999 graduate from Odessa High School. He was a member of Templo Buenas Nuevas Assembly of God. Juarez was also a member of Grupo Libre Christian Band. Survivors include: parents, Jesus and Martha Fierro of Odessa and Jose Ramon and Dianne Juarez of Pecos; sisters Gloria Arriaga of Odessa, Pilar Juarez of Pecos, and Patricia Juarez of Pecos; grandparents Abundio Fuentes of Pecos, Delia Fuentes of El Paso, Armando Padilla of Chihuahua, Mexico, Aurora Juarez of Odessa and Juan and Ricarda Fierro of Odessa; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22 at Templo Buenas Nuevas with Pastor Rosario Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Wilson Funeral Directors. _________________________________________________________________ Sam Oates ODESSA Sam Oates, 44 passed away Friday Jan. 19 in his home. He was born July 30, 1956 in Odessa and was a 1974 graduate of Permian High School. He attended Texas Tech and graduated from the Ron Bailey School of Broadcasting in Denver, Colo. Sam was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church. Above and beyond all, Sam loved his family. He was a devoted father and husband. He loved traveling, work and cared for his friends, co-workers and never met a stranger. Survivors include his wife, Janet Oates; sons, Nikolaus and Kristopher Oates; daughter, Samantha Oates; sister, Susie Wheaton and her husband, Don, of Arlington; parents, C.W. and Guy Oates of Odessa; nephews, Ben and Ross Wheaton, Joshua and Marcus Compis; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Chuck Oates. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Monday Jan. 22 at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Cook officiating. Arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. _________________________________________________________________ Emma Jean Dooley SAN ANTONIO Emma Jean Dooley, former resident of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in San Antonio at the age of 90. For nearly 20 years, Emma Jean taught English in Odessa public schools, first at Crockett Junior High and then at Hood Junior High. Claude and Emma Jean were members of the First Baptist Church. Emma Jean and her husband, Claude Dooley, lived in Odessa from 1954 until 1984 when they retired to Marble Falls. After Claude passed away in 1997, Emma Jean remained in Marble Falls for a year before moving to San Antonio to be near her daughter. Emma Jean was born in Red Water Jan. 16, 1911. She graduated from Knox City High School in 1928 and from Texas Tech College in 1931 with a degree in English. Her first teaching assignment was in Brackettville. There she met Claude Dooley, a local rancher. They were married in 1937. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, V.G. and Mae Martin; and her brothers, Guy Martin, Harold Martin and George M. Martin. Emma Jean is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Stuart Awbrey of San Antonio; her brother and sister-in-law, Skeezix and Beverly Martin of Odessa; and several nieces and nephews.
