January 28, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ [INLINE] Joe G. Roper Joe G. Roper, our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather went with Jesus to heaven on January 26, 2001. He will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services have been scheduled for 3 p.m., Monday, Jan. 29, at Golf Course Road Church of Christ with Ronnie White officiating. Internment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. He was born July 15, 1928 in Henrietta, Texas to Jesse Lair and Martha Esther Roper. On July 3, 1949, he married Julia Rose Johnson, the love of his life. He and Tom Brown, his lifelong friend, began as partners in 1955. They founded Tom Brown, Inc. and later TMBR/Sharp Drilling, Inc. He was president and director of TMBR/Sharp Drilling, Inc. at the time of his death. He was the recipient of the 2000 Hearst Energy Award for a lifetime achievement to the oil and gas industry. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents. Survivors include his son, Mark Roper of Austin; his three daughters, Kathi Roper of Midland, Patricia Elledge of Midland, and Jeanie Cornelius of Weatherford; two brothers, Johnnie Roper of Odessa and Bill Roper of Bryson; four sisters, Imogene Heck of Vancouver, Wash., Pat Johnson of Henrietta, Clarice Scarber of Bowie, and Katherine Spivey of Joy, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was so fortunate to have the most loyal friends who gave him endless strength during his illness. Tom Brown, Joe Henderson, Ed Davis and Dave Fitzgerald supported him through their friendship in a way that cannot be expressed with words. He was greatly blessed by their constant presence. He was also blessed by a few angels sent from heaven. Manny and Laura Villarreal, Carlos Anguiano, Manuel Lebario and Liz Olson were his caretakers during his illness, and their relationship developed into a cherished friendship. The family also expresses heartfelt appreciation to Hospice of Midland. Pallbearers will be Todd Roper, Taylor Callaway, Joel Callaway, Kacey Cornelius, Kerry Cornelius and Mark Elledge. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Davis, Dave Fitzgerald, Tom Brown, Joe Henderson, Jim Lingle, Jeff Phillips, Jim OBriant and Jim Alsup. Anderson, 54, passed away Jan. 27, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Sept. 26, 1946 in Odessa, Texas. He graduated from Odessa High School where he was a band member and became the bands drum major. He managed several of the area clubs and at present was the assistant manager for Town and Country Store no. 188 on Interstate 20. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Inez and W.W. Andy Anderson. He is survived by brother, W.W. Sonny Anderson and his wife, Mary Lou of Odessa; sisters, LaQuinta Hicks and her husband, Charles of Big Valley, Texas, Minnie Ruth Graves of Odessa, and Gail Eppler and her husband, Jim of London, Texas; and his companion of 25 years, Silvestre Huerta of Odessa. Visitation will begin today at 11 a.m. at Odessa Funeral Home. Graveside services have been set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Rose Hill Cemetery. Services by Odessa Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ [INLINE] Amy Ledford Our loving mother and grandmother, Amy Ledford went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 26 in Borger, Texas. She was born Nov. 11 1903 in Coryell County, Texas. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29 in the Chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Tommy Breznik officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Ledford and her family moved from De Leon to Odessa in 1948. She was a piano teacher in Odessa for many years and a longtime member of First Baptist Church Odessa. She was a joy to all who knew her, and always had a smile and words of encouragement for those she met. She will be missed greatly by her family and her friends at Lincoln Towers Retirement Center. Survivors are son, Roland Ledford and his wife, Sarah of Fritch, Texas; two sisters, Lula Ragland of De Leon, Texas and Mamie Lee-Wilson of Austin; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
