He was born Sept. 21, 1964, in Carlsbad, N.M. George had lived in Odessa for 10 years. He was a roughneck for Permian Power Tong. Survivors are his wife, Katie Lynn Wilson Masters and daughter, Kelcee Lynn Masters of Odessa; sons, Cody Masters and Cory Masters, both of Odessa; mother, Yvonnie Ruth Workman of Odessa; father, George Masters Sr. and wife Lynn "Mom" of Carlsbad; grandmother, Agnes Nelson of Rockland; sisters, Tina Kinney of Midland and Christy Meeks of Magnolia; and brothers, Josh Masters and Justin Masters, both of Carlsbad, and Johnny Joe Crowley of Las Cruces, N.M. Nolan, 96, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Aug. 25, 1904, to Robert O. Stuard and Simmie McCown Stuard in Paris, Texas. She had lived in Odessa since 1927. She and her husband owned and operated the Jack Nolan Photography Studio and later Jack Nolan Real Estate. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Nolan and nephew, Jim Clark. Survivors are her sisters, Veta Votaw and Cleta Wineberg, both of Odessa; nephews, Gordon Votaw of Odessa and Lowell Steffey of Odessa; niece, Sara Easley of Kermit; numerous great-nephews and nieces; great-great-nephews and nieces; and a great-great-great-niece. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Parkview Church of Christ with Charles Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ [INLINE] Glen Maurice Shumate RED SPRINGS Glen Maurice Shumate, age 74, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at his residence in Odessa. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at the Red Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Bennett, pastor, and A.B. Martin officiating. Interment will be in the Henson Cemetery in Red Springs under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Shumate was born Oct. 25, 1926, in Red Springs. He married Ruth Wood on May 17, 1950, in Wichita Falls. He was a field operator for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 30 years. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Odessa; three daughters, Cindy Clark of Tahlequah, Okla., Gay Gann of Gardendale and Vicky Reel of Olive Branch, Miss.; two sisters, Senna Jane Winn of Red Springs and Lucille Coker of Fort Meyers, Fla.; two brothers, John Shumate and Joe Shumate, both of Graham; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ June Sayle Baker LA PORTE June Sayle Baker, 69, of Houston was born Oct. 19, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., and passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, in Houston. June was preceded in death by her father, Dr. William Frank Sayle; mother, Dorothy Sayle; uncle, Upton Giles; sister, Dr. Bettye Ann Sayle; and niece, Nancy Wells Goldberg. June is survived by her husband of 45 years, William J. Baker; daughter, Debbie Baker; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia June Baker and William Nolen; grandchildren, Pvt. Jessica LeJeune Guthrie, Cynthia Megan Guthrie, Benjamin Joshua Rodriguez, Dustin Bradley Rodriguez and Nikki Michaela Nolen; sister and brother-in-law, Jane Sayle Wells and W.F. Wells; and niece, Judy Wells McCracken. June graduated from Commerce High School in Commerce in 1948, attended East Texas State Teachers College in 1950, became a licensed vocational nurse and practiced real estate and various other professions. She married William Jack Baker on June 18, 1955, in Dallas. June was extremely active in her church and stood steadfast in her Lord. Junes wishes of cremation will be respected and there will be no viewing. A memorial service was conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at St. Johns Episcopal Church, 102 E. Avenue G at Broadway, in La Porte. The family asks, in lieu of flowers, that contributions be made to St. Johns Episcopal Church in La Porte. _________________________________________________________________ [INLINE] Lilly Yvonne Bonnie Todd ABILENE Lilly Yvonne "Bonnie" Cooper Todd, age 65, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Hendrick Medical Center. Service will be held Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Pete Knight officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 1, 2001, at Elmwood Funeral Home. Mrs. Todd was born May 11, 1935, in North Roby and graduated from Roby High School. She married William Todd on Dec. 12, 1959, and they moved to Abilene in 1966. He preceded her in death Sept. 11, 1974. She was also preceded in death by her son, William David Todd on Dec. 12, 1962; as well as two brothers, Carl Cooper and Chester Cooper; a sister, Ruby Carpenter; and her parents, Ollie and Lottice Cooper. Mrs. Todd retired from the Abilene Independent School District in May 1998 after 32 years of dedicated service. She was a very dedicated and active member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. She is and always will be dedicated to God, Christian service and family. She is survived by three sons, Richard Blount and wife Elaine of Odessa, Darrell Blount of Las Vegas, Nev., daughter-in-law, Sheila Blount of Abilene and Danny Blount and wife Zan of Columbus, Ohio; and a daughter, Lisa McHan and her husband Bryan of Abilene. Dwight Wayne Love, head of the math department at Greater Atlanta Christian School, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at his residence, following a lengthy struggle with cancer. He was 59 years old. Dr. Love was born March 30, 1941, in McKinney, Texas. He married Donna Sherrill on April 4, 1969. He completed his undergraduate work at Abilene Christian University in 1963. His graduate work at Rice University led to a master of arts degree in 1966, and work at the University of Georgia resulted in a Ph.D. in 1974. Dr. Love was on the faculty of Greater Atlanta Christian School for the past 27 years, serving in the position of math department head. The GACS math department is known as one of the top programs throughout the Southeast and the nation as a result of Loves work. In 1980, he initiated the Advanced Placement (AP) Program in math, and as a result, his students achieved top SAT scores and have been accepted to the finest colleges and universities in the United States. In addition to his mastery of teaching, Love led the GACS varsity math team to seven state championships (all school classifications) since 1990, as well as two second-place and one third-place win. Through his efforts, since 1987 GACS has hosted the largest varsity math tournament in the Southeast. In 2000, the tournament was renamed in his honor, the GACS-Dwight Love Math Tournament. Love held leadership positions in the Governors Honors Program, the Georgia Mathematics Conference, the American Regions Math League and has coached the Georgia math team in national competitions. Dr. Love leaves his wife, Donna Sherrill Love of Lilburn, Ga., a freshman English teacher at Greater Atlanta Christian School, along with three daughters, Beverly S. Love of Lilburn, Laura Lynn Love of Nashville, Tenn., and Carol Anne Love of Lilburn. All three daughters graduated from Greater Atlanta Christian School. He is also survived by his mother, Anna Myrl Bell Love of Odessa and sister, Martha Love Hopper of Danbury, Conn. The Loves have been members of the Campus Church of Christ for the past 26 years, where Dr. Love has assisted as song leader and served as deacon. A memorial service will be held at 4 in the afternoon today, Feb. 1, 2001, at Campus Church of Christ located at 1525 Indian Trail Road, Norcross. In lieu of flowers, Dr. Love and family request that any memorial be given to Greater Atlanta Christian School for the Dwight Love Academic Endowment to support scholarships for deserving students and the GACS math team. She was born Sept. 4, 1906, in Plattsburgh, Mo., to Edward and Margie Priegel. After graduation from college, she taught business courses in Wichita Falls and Hobart, Okla., high schools. She married Alvin Donahue on Nov. 25, 1927, in Okmulgee, Okla., and moved to Odessa in 1936. She and her husband owned and operated Donahue Investment Co. until his death in 1965. Marie was a member of First Baptist Church, serving as church pianist in her earlier years. She also served as superintendent of the youth department for 37 years and outreach director of the adult department. She was active in Women Missionary Union as well as serving on many church committees. She was an officer in the Contemporary Garden Club where she took many blue ribbons for horticulture and flower arranging. She was active in the Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary and the American Association of Retired Persons. She and her husband provided scholarships for several girls to Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Lloyd Mitchell of Odessa; granddaughter, and her husband, Sharon and Allen Ritchie of Belton; and two great-grandchildren, Alyse and Andrew. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ernest Easley and the Rev. Bill Cathy officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
