February 02, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ [INLINE] Melinda Garcia Ortiz ODESSA Melinda "Tia Titi" Garcia Ortiz, 40, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at her home to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her family. Melinda was born April 2, 1960, in Odessa to Ceferino Sr. and Eva Garcia. She attended Odessa public schools and graduated from Ector High School in 1978. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Saturday at Martinez Funeral Home. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. She is survived by her parents; two sons, Pedro Ortiz Jr. and wife Becky and Joe Michael Ortiz, both of Odessa; a daughter, Sonya Ortiz of Odessa; sisters, Mary Ann Rodriguez and husband Ruben and Nelda McGuire and husband David; brothers, Charlie Garcia and wife Linda, Ceferino "Billy" Garcia Jr. and Joe Garcia, all of Odessa; nieces and nephews, Myra Uballe, husband Santos IV and their two children Santos V "Bubba" and Caitlin, J.R., Marcus and Steven Rodriguez, Roxanne and Brianne McGuire and Laura Garcia, all of Odessa, Toni Dela Torre and husband Jaime and their son Alejandro of Houston and Matthew Garcia of Albany, Ga. Pallbearers will be her sons and nephews and also her special friends, Alfredo Herrera, Ivan Sanchez, Jesse Vogt and Pablo Jimenez. Honorary pallbearers will be her brothers-in-law. Special thanks to Rural Hospice and the Cancer Center for their hard work and support. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Carole Ann Hay ODESSA Carole Ann Hay, 58, of Odessa died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Hospice House in Odessa. She was born Jan. 28, 1942, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. She married Murray Hay on July 1, 1966, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Mrs. Hay came to Odessa in 1984 from Kansas. She was a member of Sunset Heights Baptist Church, where she taught the two- and three-year-old class. She was a troop leader for Buttercup Girl Scout Troop No. 478 and was active in VIPs and PTA at Pease Elementary School. She volunteered with Mission Odessa and was employed by St. Johns Episcopal School. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Sunset Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Jess Little officiating. Survivors include: Husband, Murray Hay of Odessa; daughters, Maruella Smitke of Taber, Alberta, Canada, and Pamela Enders of Kelowna, British Columbia; sons, Jarred Hay of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Murray Hay Jr. of Taber; brothers, Robert Cragg and Edward Cragg, both of Calgary; sisters, Joyce Norris and Fern Cragg, both of Calgary, and Francine Cragg of Edmonton; and five grandchildren. Floral tributes should be delivered to Sunset Heights Baptist Church and if desired, memorials may be made to Hospice House. Arrangements were by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
