February 28, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ [INLINE] Jose "Chema" Botello Sr. ODESSA Jose "Chema" Botello Sr., 68, of Odessa died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at his residence. He was born May 5, 1932, in Bruni. He was Catholic. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fransico Botello and Matilde Garcia Botello; brothers, Roman Botello, Cipriano Botello, Roberto Botello and Guadalupe Botello; sisters, Antonia Herrera and Isabel Salazar; and a granddaughter, Iris Nicole Botello. He is survived by his wife, Frances N. Botello of Odessa; sons, Johnny Botello, Micheal Botello, Daniel Botello and Jose Botello Jr., all of Odessa; daughters, Belinda B. Rodriguez, Melba Botello, Janie B. Leyva and Lori Patino, all of Odessa; 21 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2001, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Micheal Botello Jr., Jimmy Baeza, Joel Baeza, Cruz DeAnda Jr., Andy Baeza Jr., Luis Rodriguez Jr., Rick Garza and Rudy DeAnda. Lewis, 93, of Odessa went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001. He was born Dec. 4, 1907, in Eastland County. D.D. was a longtime member of the Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ. He was a retired employee of Gulf Oil Co. He hunted "treasure" for many years at various locations; his favorite was the meteor crater. He also enjoyed woodworking and made quilt racks for all his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joy McCormack, on March 7, 1987; his parents, John and Callie Lewis; brothers, Homer Lewis, Elmo Lewis, Delton Lewis, Dub Lewis, Bud Lewis and Glyndol Lewis; and sister, Alta Brown. He is survived by his daughters, Jerri Nelson and her husband Coy of Duncanville and Callie Braddock and husband James of Odessa; former spouse and friend, Fay Fleming; brother, John L. Lewis Jr. and wife Odessa; sister, Geneva Sweat of Lubbock; nine grandchildren, Scott Braddock, Sid Braddock and wife Krista, Shelli Presley and husband Erik, Darren Nelson and wife Rebecca, Teresa Landry and husband Lance, Stephen Nelson, Jacque Pridemore and husband Bob, Marshall L. McCormack Jr. and Lori Barnes and husband Tommy; five great-grandchildren, Nathan and Brittany Pridemore, Lee McCormack, Zachary and Taylor Nelson and Kaitlyn Braddock; and many nieces and nephews. His family wishes to express their appreciation to his loving caregivers, Kathy Pruiett, niece Carolyn Standefer and great-niece Tammy Neatherlin, whose excellent care allowed him to remain at home and to his neighbors who looked out after him so well. Services were held Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Church of Christ Minister Roy Smalling officiated. Interment was at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
