March 14, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ [INLINE] Victoria Lee Forsythe Grimes ODESSA Victoria Lee Forsythe Grimes, age 43, of Odessa died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. She was born July 16, 1957, in Fort Benning, Ga., to David and Elsie Forsythe. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Cheryl Homsher officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Victoria had lived in eastern Pennsylvania, Ethiopia, Fort Benning, Ga., and Fort Ord, Calif., settling in Odessa in 1974. She graduated from Permian High School in 1975, attended Texas Tech, graduated with a bachelor of arts in English and art at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and earned a masters in education and counseling from Sul Ross University. She married Jesse Taylor Grimes IV Jan. 9, 1982, in Summerfield. They raised their family in Odessa. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was an art teacher at Crockett Junior High and then was a counselor at Bonham and Nimitz Junior Highs and Ross Elementary. She loved art and life. She was a loving, devoted sister, daughter and mother to her daughters. She became a compassionate caregiver to others with cancer. She was a great friend to all that knew her. She will be missed by all. She is survived by her daughters, Tiffany and Taylor Grimes of Odessa; parents, LTC. David and Janice Forsythe of Odessa; and sister, Belle Routh Hicks and her husband, Pete Hicks, and their children, Tara and David Routh, all of Odessa. (www.wilsonfuneral.com) _________________________________________________________________ Doris Pierce Alford BROWNWOOD Funeral services for Doris Pierce Alford, 74, of Gardendale, formerly of Brownwood, were at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2001, at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Leslie officiating. Interment followed at Greenleaf Cemetery. She passed away March 8, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Milam County. She married Roy C. Alford Aug. 3, 1979, in Rankin. She was a homemaker and previously worked at Texas Feathers in Brownwood for many years and retired from Texas Instruments in Odessa. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She had lived in Gardendale for 18 years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Pierce Jr. in 1976, three sisters and six brothers. She is survived by her husband, Roy C. Alford of Gardendale; two daughters, Earline Lawler and husband Ronnie of Pflugerville and Elsie Peck and husband James of Gardendale; a son, Richard L. "Ricky" Pierce and wife Ruth of Brownwood; a brother, Cecil Hill of Illinois; six grandchildren, Steven Dodd, Johnny Dodd, Allen Dodd, Travis Pierce, Rikki Lynne Butts and Cole Lawler; a stepson, Randy Alford and wife Casey of Gardendale; a stepdaughter, Maricia Dowden of Granbury; nine stepgrandchildren, Leslie and Jamie Ford, Robin Morris, Justin, Josh, Cody and Kassi Alford, Jason Peck and Tammy Gonzales; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Davis-Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. _________________________________________________________________ [INLINE] Ralph Curley Sandell ODESSA Ralph "Curley" Sandell Sr., 92, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at his home in Odessa. He was born Feb. 4, 1909, in Hornbech, La. He moved to Chicago in 1929 where he met and married Mary Malichuk in 1933. She preceded him in death in 1995. He moved to Pyote in 1949. He served as a deacon at Pyote Baptist Church for 34 years, and he also served several years on the school board of Pyote Independent School District. He owned and operated a service station in Pyote until he retired. He loved to fish and do garage sales. He was a member of Sunset Heights Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Ricki Dean Sandell, Mike Ralston, Jack Shelton, Billy Grooms, Dwight Mayo and David Hampton. He is survived by his wife of five years, Lenora; a daughter, Loretta Wood of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, Ralph Sandell Jr. of Odessa; two stepsons, Jerry Harris of Mexico and Jim Harris of Odessa; three grandchildren, Richard Smith of Tijeras, N.M., Rebecca Sue Meek of Dallas and Tami Hampton of Amarillo; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 14, 2001, at Sunset Heights Baptist Church, 2401 W. 16th St. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family suggests donations to Home Hospice. _________________________________________________________________ [INLINE] Alice Womack ODESSA Alice Womack was born June 10, 1928, in Bell County. She passed away Sunday, March 11, 2001, at approximately 2 p.m. at Medical Center Hospital after a sudden illness. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today, March 14, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Sam Jordan officiating. A private interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. Alice was married Sept. 29, 1955, to Glen Womack in Lovington, N.M., and had been a resident of Odessa since that time. Alice and her husband were the owners of Permian Tank and Manufacturing, which they established in 1975. Alice is survived by her husband, Glen of Odessa; a daughter, Cheryl Womack of Odessa; a son, Kelly Womack of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Betty Corbett of Fort Worth; a half brother, Mark Peteete of New Braunfels; and three grandchildren, Justen, Austen and Britten Womack of Jacksonville. Glen, Cheryl, Kelly and Betty wish to thank all of their friends for the love, kindness, sympathy and understanding during this time of heartbreak and sadness. The family suggests contributions to a charity of choice in lieu of flowers. _________________________________________________________________ [INLINE] Eva Navarrette Nunez ODESSA Eva Navarrette Nunez passed away Monday, March 12, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. Eva was born Feb. 4, 1943, in Malaga, N.M., to Marcelo and Conrada Navarrette Sr., who preceded her in death. She married Jose Z. Nunez Aug. 22, 1958. She is survived by her husband, Jose Z. Nunez, and her children, Dorothy and her husband Nestor Baeza and her children Christopher, David and Cathy Nunez, Barney and his wife Irene Nunez and children Jennifer and Nikki Nunez; Dimitri and his wife Delma and their children Michael, Regina Aguilera and Paul-Matthew Nunez. She had two great-grandchildren, Christopher Jacob Nunez and Jerry Emmanuel Sanchez Jr., all of Odessa. She is also survived by her sisters, Jesusita Graziano and Elidia Florez of Carlsbad, N.M., and Erminia Chavez of Midland, and her brothers, Elias Navarrette, Marcelo Navarrette Jr. and Joe Navarrette, all of Carlsbad. Mother Eva had the strongest faith in God, and it showed in everything she did. Mother was a devout Catholic, great cook, loving, patient, kind, compassionate, caring, and she loved her husband, children, family and friends, all unconditionally. Mother was past president of the Order of the Carmelites, Spanish coordinator and teacher of RCIA at St. Joseph, lay ministry and base communities and lector. She helped daily at the south side parish office when her health permitted. She wrote spiritual poetry, and she would share her poetry at Mass and anywhere and anytime. She was a great translator for Spanish and English. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2001, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
