April 08, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Charles E. Warnock Judge Charles E. Warnock, 77, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001, at a local hospital. Judge Warnock was born Feb. 2, 1924, in San Angelo, Texas. Judge Warnock enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduating from Pecos High School. He served in five major battle campaigns during World War II in the European and Pacific theaters. He was Chief Demolition Officer with the Seventh Engineer Combat Battalion of Gen. George S. Pattons Third Army. Judge Warnock attended Texas Tech University and was an auto dealer for 28 years. He bought his first car dealership, Warnock Motor Company, the Ford dealership, in Van Horn. He later acquired the Ford dealership in Alamogordo, New Mexico, and the General Motors Dealership in Fort Stockton. "Judge," as he is often called, had been a longtime resident of Fort Stockton, where he served as a City Councilman in Van Horn, 12 years as Pecos County Judge, 12 years as the Chair of the Pecos County Red Cross and Chairman of the Permian Regional Planning Commission in Odessa. One of his accomplishments was the building and furnishing of a new, modern public library and he took great pride in serving the people of Pecos County as their County Judge. Judge was a 50-year member of the Culberson Masonic Lodge No. 1232 in Van Horn, the Fort Stockton Masonic Lodge No. 1022 in Fort Stockton, Scottish Rite and the El Maida Shrine Temple in El Paso. He was a member of the Odessa Shrine Club. He was a life member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion. He had been a Rotarian for more than 50 years, a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Odessa Rotary Club. Judge and Bettye were married on Dec. 9, 1971, in Fort Stockton. They moved to Odessa in 1994 and were faithful members of First United Methodist Church. Judge was active in the Odessa Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors since moving to Odessa. He was a member of the Permian Basin Genealogical Society, the Friday and Thursday Duplicate Bridge Clubs, a past member of the Allison cancer Wing of the Midland Memorial Hospital, Hospital Board Member and a volunteer fundraiser for many organizations. Judge enjoyed genealogy, playing bridge, reading and community service. He will be remembered as a dedicated servant to his community, nation and fellow man. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilie L. and Gertrude Lawhon Warnock, and one sister, Jean Finley. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Bettye Warnock of Odessa; two stepsons, Michael Beck of Aguilar, Colo., and Buddy Beck of Kirbyville, Texas; a sister, Patricia Warnock Eden of Boston, Mass.; and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Public visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve trout and Rev. Bill Heggemeir officiating. Military and Masonic graveside services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Fairmount Cemetery, San Angelo, Texas, under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Odessa Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and the Odessa Rotary Club. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund, 415 N. Lee, Odessa, Texas, 79761. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home, Odessa, Texas. _________________________________________________________________ Ron Van Dyke Ron Van Dyke, 60, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Hospice House in Odessa. He was born June 27, 1940, in Waukesha, Wis., to Richard and Helen Van Dyke. They precede him in death. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Rev. James Qualls and Rev. Bill Heard are officiating. Ron moved to Odessa from Ft. Hood in Killeen, Texas, in 1978. He married Jeannie Pierce on Oct. 4, 1980, and was a member of Freewill Baptist Church. He was a retired Army Vietnam veteran, receiving numerous medals of honor. Ron enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time with his dogs. Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Van Dyke of Odessa; daughters Kitty Ellis of Georgia, and Toni Root of Virginia Beach, Va.; stepdaughter Judy Pierce of Odessa; and four grandchildren. Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Mary Louise Gilmour BIG SPRING Mary Louise Gilmour, 85, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Seabury Center in Odessa where she had been a resident for more than 16 years. Mary was born to Frances and William Gilmour March 20, 1916, in Big Spring. She attended public schools in Big Spring, graduating in 1933 with honors. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the pep squad. Mary joined the Order of the Eastern Star at age 18 in Big Spring and was active in Order of the Eastern Star in Odessa for many years. Mary worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone and for several years, she worked as a Girl Scout executive. She worked in the accounting department for Shell Oil Co. in Midland and for Texas Electric Service Co. in Big Spring. Mary attended college in later years, receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in 1953 from the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated with honors. She earned a Master of Business Administration Degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock in 1956 and did additional graduate work in Colorado and Wyoming. Mary moved to Odessa where she taught accounting for 22 years at Odessa College. Ms. Gilmour was a member of the Business and Professional Womens Association, was past president of the American Association of University Women and in 1985 was awarded a Certificate of Honor for Outstanding Service by the local chapter. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Retired Teachers Association and was very active in Odessa civic and social activities. Mary was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Odessa since 1956. She was active in St. Marys Episcopal Church in Big Spring for 30 years. Graveside funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2001, at Mt. Olive Memorial Park in Big Spring with the Rev. Jim Liggett, rector of St. Marys Episcopal Church in Big Spring, officiating. A memorial service will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Odessa at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001, with the Rev. Michael Jasper, rector, officiating. Assisting will be Judy Cobb, deacon. Mary is survived by a cousin, Erma L. Thompson of Williamsville, N.Y.; her longtime caregiver, Dorothy Presley; and by many friends. Special thanks are given to the staff and attendants at Seabury Center for their loving care of Mary these past 16 years and to the Home Hospice staff and nurses for their loving care and consolation. Also, we are grateful for the dedication of the Lay Visitors of St. Barnabas and St. Johns Episcopal Church, who were faithful in their support.
