Barragan, 72, of Odessa died Sunday, April 22, 2001, in Odessa. He was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Valentine. He was retired ranch hand and a lifelong resident of Odessa. He was a member of Buenas Nuevas Assembly of God. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Buenas Nuevas Assembly of God, 505 Vine Ave., with Pastor Rosario Hill officiating. Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Liberata Barragan; and a sister, Delia Barragan. He is survived by his wife, Maria Barragan of Odessa; sons, Arturo Barragan, Gilberto Barragan, Francisco Barragan, Cruz Barragan and Enrique Barragan, all of Odessa, Martin Barragan of Phoenix, Guadalupe Barragan of Morton, Arturo T. Barragan and Gilberto T. Barragan, both of Van Horn; daughters, Libby Barragan of Odessa, Hortencia Paredes of Austin, Albesia Maples of Junction and Margarita T. Barragan of San Jose, Calif.; brothers, Manuel Barragan of Indio, Calif., Pedro Barragan of Los Angeles and Gilberto Barragan of Pecos; 22 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be his sons. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel. _________________________________________________________________ Lawrence J. Kahlig SAN ANGELO Lawrence J. Kahlig, 84, of San Angelo passed away at 12:16 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today, April 24, 2001, at Johnsons Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Cathedral Church of Sacred Heart with Father Maurice Voity officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Lawrence was born Oct. 2, 1916, in Westphalia to Pius B. and Eleanor Kahlig. He farmed in San Angelo and the Vancourt area prior to moving to Kermit in 1967, where he worked for ARCO Oil and Gas Co. He retired Dec. 1, 1978, and moved back to San Angelo in March 1979. He was a member of Cathedral Church of Sacred Heart. Lawrence was married to Evelyn Hamann on Aug. 20, 1940, in San Angelo. Survivors include his loving wife of over 60 years, Evelyn Kahlig of San Angelo; a son, James F. Kahlig and wife Norma of San Angelo; a daughter, Janet Harwell of Odessa; three grandchildren, Joy Foss and husband Kieth of Pensacola, Fla., Carol Blanek and husband Michael of San Angelo and James Brian Harwell and wife Tammie of Odessa; five great-grandchildren, Dallas Foss of Pensacola, Fla., James Brian "JJ" Harwell Jr. and Brianna Harwell, both of Odessa, James Delamater and Stephen Delamater, both of San Angelo; a sister, Olga Hamann of San Angelo; and a brother, Floyd A. Kahlig of San Angelo. Pallbearers will be James Brian Harwell, Kieth Foss, Don Hunt, Doug Wells, W.D. Haire and Clay Hubbard. Honorary pallbearers will be W.E. Fine and Bobby Rowland. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. David Harvey and his staff, the attendants at Girling Home Health Care and to Laura Owens. He was born Sept. 4, 1944. He was employed with South Texas Treaters as a sandblaster. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo and Maria Nino; brothers, Ramon, Manuel and Eliseo Nino; sister, Bernarda Zubia; and a grandchild, Brian Melendez. Surviving are his wife, Maria Nino of Odessa; sons, Jaime Nino and Mario Nino, both of Odessa; daughters, Francis Nino and Veronica Melendez, both of Odessa; and brothers, Caleb Nino, Jeremias Nino and Jesus Nino, all of Odessa, Samuel Nino and Ruben Nino, both of Roswell, N.M., and Lazaro Nino of Ojinaga, Mexico.
