April 28, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ LaVesta Lee Chennault ODESSA LaVesta Lee Chennault, 80, of Odessa passed away Thursday, April 26, 2001, at the Hospice House. She was born June 6, 1920, in Jayton. She worked as a bookkeeper for Fitz Equipment for 25 years and retired in 1990. She also worked for W.E. Howard, C.P.A., for over 25 years. She was a member and past president of the American Business Womens Association and the Odessa Tabernacle Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. "Woody" Chennault Oct. 16, 1992; her parents, Ervin and Bessie Lee; and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Randy Chennault and wife Mary Anne of Hemet, Calif.; daughter, Sandra "Sandi" Hudman and husband Wade of Odessa; brother, B.R. Lee of Stephenville; six grandchildren, Olivia and Bryan Cook, Tammy, Brian and Cory Chennault, Megan and Jeremy Hudman; and a great-grandson, Tyler Cook. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2001, at the Odessa Tabernacle Church with the Revs. Sam Jordan and Doug Herget officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Coral Scott Rankin RANKIN Coral Scott Rankin, 85, of Rankin died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Midland. Services will be at 10 a.m. today, April 28, 2001, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Medley officiating. Burial will follow at the Rankin Cemetery with services under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane. Mrs. Rankin was born March 17, 1916, in Big Spring. She had been a longtime resident of Rankin. She was a welder and was a ship builder during World War II, and she was also a carpenter. She had owned an oilfield water sales business. She married W.E. "Billy" Rankin Jan. 13, 1947, in McCamey. He preceded her in death Aug. 18, 1995. She was a Beta Sigma Phi member at large, a tournament duplicate bridge player, a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, a member of the West Texas Trail Riders Association and a member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Jim Williams of Rankin; sister, Maxine Bennett of Dallas; two grandsons, Michael Rankin and John Williams, both of San Antonio; two great-grandchildren, Shelby Williams and Barrett Williams, both of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews. _________________________________________________________________ Copyright © 2000, 2001 Odessa American.
