She was born Aug. 5, 1934, in Dallas to George and Theresa Beyer, who preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Hailey Marble of the home; three sons, Barry Marble of Fort Worth, Garry Marble of Houston and Hailey Craig Marble of Magnolia; a daughter, Greta Grubbs of Gilbert, Ariz.; three sisters, Peggy Clover of Garland, Roma Lee Brown of Marysville, Wash., and Janet Eileen Copeland of Fort Worth. Shirley graduated as class salutatorian from Sunset High School in Dallas in 1950 and by 1952 had come to West Texas to teach dancing for the Montilla Studio of Dancing with her sister, Peggy. In 1953, she started the Shir-Lee School of Dance with its first public recital at the Odessa High School auditorium in June 1954. At the same time, she met Hailey Marble, a Korean War veteran working for Parker Drilling Co. They were married March 27, 1953, in Lovington, N.M. Shirleys pursuit of a dancing career was put on hold when she and Hailey started their family with twin boys in 1955 and finished with another son and finally a longed-for daughter. While the children were growing up, she continued with dancing as an instructor for Mary Annes School of Dance and later at the Lois Stone Dance Studio. Mrs. Marble was also responsible for teaching many of Odessas youngest citizens while she was the dance instructor at Kiddie Kollege Kindergarten during the mid 1960s. When her own children were grown, she started the Shirley Marble School of Dance in Kermit and Fort Stockton. Her students would perform throughout the Permian Basin and on Channel 7 television. She said, "Why dance, if you cant perform?" Shirley was a member of the Odessa First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she was involved in many assignments. Her favorites were teaching Sunday school and volunteering at the Family History Center were she helped people with their genealogy. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 8, 2001, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2011 N. Washington Ave., with Bishop Spencer Thompson officiating.
