May 10, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Rev. Monsignor Kevin James Heyburn SAN ANGELO Rev. Monsignor Kevin James Heyburn, former pastor of St. Joseph Church in Rowena and St. Boniface Church in Olfen, passed from this life after a heart attack while reciting the rosary Monday, May 7, 2001, in San Antonio. Monsignor Heyburn was born Aug. 10, 1922, in Burrow-in-Furness, Lancashire, England. He was the older of two sons born to Mary Margaret OSullivan Heyburn and James Heyburn. He attended Catholic grade schools in New York, Missouri and Texas and graduated from St. Peter and St. Joseph School in San Antonio. He attended St. Anthonys Seminary High School in San Antonio and graduated from Price High School Seminary in Amarillo in 1940. Monsignor Heyburns college and theological education was completed at St. Louis Preparatory Seminary in St. Louis and St. Johns Seminary in San Antonio. He was ordained to the Catholic priesthood in San Antonio on May 27, 1948. His assignments included Sacred Heart Church in Amarillo, Holy Name Church in Happy, Our Lady of Lourdes in Andrews, Sacred Heart in Abilene, St. Joseph in Rowena, St. Ambrose in Wall, St. Marys in Odessa, St. Thomas in Miles and a second assignment as pastor of St. Josephs in Rowena. On Oct. 1, 1992, he retired as pastor but continued to serve the Rowena and Olfen communities until 1998 as the pastor emeritus when failing health required him to move to Padua Place, a retirement home for Catholic priests in San Antonio. Monsignor Heyburn also served five years on active duty as a chaplain in the U.S. Air Force. Monsignor Heyburn served as vicar general of the Diocese of San Angelo from 1970 to 1979. He was in charge of the construction of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Andrews in 1959 and Central Catholic High School in Abilene in 1963. He served as the director of Pro-Life Activities for the Diocese of San Angelo from 1976 until he moved to Padua Place. Monsignor Heyburn is survived by John and Anne Heyburn, his younger brother and sister-in-law, and their four children, Kevin Heyburn of Austin, Maureen and David Myers of Richmond, Paul and Kristin Heyburn of Houston and Bridget and Brooke Williams of Dallas. A vigil service with rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2001, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Monsignor Fred Nawarskas presiding. Bishop Michael Pfeifer, OMI, will be the celebrant and priests of the Diocese of San Angelo will concelebrate the Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2001, at the Cathedral Church. Monsignor Timothy J. Murphy, vicar general of the Diocese, will be the homilist. Interment will follow at the priest section of Calvary Cemetery. Members of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree will serve as an honor guard for the vigil, throughout the evening and for the funeral Mass. Arrangements by Johnsons Funeral Home, 435 W. Beauregard, (915) 655-3113. _________________________________________________________________ Jamie Klinke ODESSA Jamie Lee Ann Klinke, age 15, of Odessa went to be with God on Sunday, May 6, 2001, at her home. She was born Feb. 5, 1986, in Tucson, Ariz. She came to Odessa in 1987, where she had been attending school. She was an eighth-grader at Hood Junior High. She was a member of Challenger Baseball League, hippo-horseback riding therapy, Camp Summit and dolphin therapy. She was a great fan of the Odessa Jackalopes hockey team. Jamie was preceded in death by her grandfather, Donald Klinke, and great-grandmothers, Eva Klinke and Louise Augustine. Survivors include her mother, Annette Klinke of Odessa; grandmother, Marie Hegemuller of Missouri; aunts, Cheryl Yates and husband Chris, and Donna Nolen and husband Mark of Midland; uncle, Les Klinke and wife Donna of Buena Park, Calif.; cousins, Daniel, Heather, Amber, Morrison and Ashley Stutts and Patrick Klinke, all of Midland, and Pamela and Donald Klinke of Buena Park, Calif. Services were held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be directed to Permian Basin Rehabilitation Center. The services were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Velma Rincon ODESSA Velma Rincon, age 93, of Odessa died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Feb. 27, 1908, in Erath County to John and Euna Higginbotham. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2001, in Hico under the direction of Rutledge Funeral Home. Mrs. Rincon grew up with her six brothers and two sisters near Hico. She was a retired insurance agent. In her work as an insurance agent for Rio Grande Insurance Co., she worked several years as a representative to the military in Germany and had the opportunity to travel in Europe. She was an avid traveler. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a devoted Baptist and member of University Heights Baptist Church in Odessa. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Euna Price. She is survived by her husband, Raul Rincon of Odessa; daughters, Mary Barker of Odessa and Pat Matheaus of Pipe Creek; son, Glen Whiteside of Bangs; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
