May 15, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Altha B. King ODESSA Altha B. King, 89, of Odessa died Saturday, May 12, 2001, after a lengthy illness. She was born March 2, 1912, in Itasca to Millard and Nancy Blissit (Milford), who preceded her in death. She married Gervis King on Aug. 16, 1930, in Bloomington, who also preceded her in death in 1964. Before her retirement, she worked for the San Angelo Independent School District at the Central High School snack bar and moved to Odessa in 1986 from San Angelo. She was a member of the Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, four sisters, grandson, Doby Venable and granddaughter, Traci Venable. Survivors include her daughter, Evelyn Venable (Darrell) of Odessa; son, Robert A. King (Brenda) of Kerrville; three grandchildren, Vicki Peacock of Odessa, Shannon Minton of Kerrville and Brett King of Cedar Park; 10 great-grandchildren, Tony Mayhar (Courtney) of Stephenville, Margie Niver (Jeremy) of Shreveport, La., Pam Peacock, Matthew and Kourtney Jarrell, all of Odessa, Ryan and Jessica King, both of Cedar Park, Kevin, Tiffany and Joseph King, all of Kerrville; and a great-great-grandchild, Michelle Niver of Shreveport. Public visitation was held Monday evening at Johnsons Funeral Home in San Angelo. Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. today, May 15, 2001, at the Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo under the direction of Johnsons Funeral Home. Local arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Charles Royce Lankford ODESSA Charles Royce Lankford, 72, of Odessa passed away Sunday, May 13, 2001, at his residence. He was born June 24, 1928, in Harmon. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He taught sixth grade at Dowling Elementary School. He retired after 34 years of service. He was a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Inez Lankford; and a great-nephew, Christopher Harrison. Survivors are his brother, Clayton Lankford of Austin; niece, Peggy Harrison of Austin; nephews, Eldon Lankford of San Diego, Calif., and Andrew Harrison of Austin; and cousin, Charles Emerson and wife Anne of Odessa. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
